Description
ABOUT THE RACE: "RACE TO REMEMBER" for Memorial Day - is an annual timed event held in the Vancouver WA waterfront. The purpose of this event is to come together as a community to HONOR THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE made by our fallen military heroes. The Half marathon, 10K and 5K Route is an out and back course on the Columbia River trail. The first Half Mile is our Honor Mile, where we will line the pathway with the American Flags and pictures of military fallen heroes. The Honor Mile is a community walk and is meant for us to slow down as a community and remember the ultimate sacrifice of our military heroes and their families. If you sign up for 5k, 10k or Half Marathon you don't have to pay another entry fee for the honor mile.
ABOUT RACE TO REMEMBER: Race to Remember is a 501c3 Military non profit organization, “Race to Remember” is the name of our nonprofit in addition to the name we use for all of our races and events throughout the year. "Race to Remember" was found in Vancouver WA in June 2009 by Claudia Cardenas after losing her fiancé SFC Jason Vinyard a 38year old veteran that had served in the Army for 20years and was stationed at Fort Vancouver Barracks at the time of his passing. "Race to Remember" is a year round non profit and through our races and community outreach events our intended purpose is to ensure our communities NEVER FORGETS that FREEDOM ISN'T FREE and to remember the sacrifice(s) that our veteran, first responders and their families make every day to continue to protect our Freedom while keeping us safe.
Race to Remember organize five race events a year:
1.Race to Remember – Armed Forces Day (May)
2.Race to Remember - Memorial Day (May)
3.Race to Remember - Independence Day (July)
* Partnership with BackaHero.Today
4.Race to Remember - 911 United We Stand (Sept)
5.Race to Remember - Veterans Day Race. (Nov)
In addition to racing, we organize and participate in other events that honor and support our Veterans such as military care package drives, Honor Flight flag escorts, Honor the Fallen events, Veteran moving assistance, as well as providing opportunities for our local youth to better understand the true meaning behind the Veteran and Patriotic Holidays. We coordinate and host events such as “Soldier in the Classroom”, “Thank You Cards” and “Books for Soldiers”. Our goal is to continue to build partnerships with other organizations in our communities and throughout the nation to help honor and support our past, present and future Veterans and First Responders. Our long term goal is to establishment a scholarship program for the children and spouses of the Fallen Heroes.
