Welcome to my 4th Annual EHE 5K!
As many of you know, I’ve been living with EHE — a very rare cancer with no cure and no approved treatments. It’s a disease that looks different for every patient, and we still don’t fully understand it. Living with EHE means getting comfortable with uncertainty.
My family, friends, and support system inspire me every single day to keep fighting. I’m also inspired by the other patients facing this same battle, and by the doctors and researchers working tirelessly to develop treatments. Even though EHE is rare, the strength within this community is powerful.
Living with EHE comes with a lot of emotions. Some days I feel angry or sad because I don’t want to have cancer. Some days I feel hopeful and inspired — especially when I can help someone newly diagnosed realize they are not alone. There is something meaningful about being able to say, “I understand,” and truly mean it.
One thing I wish people knew is that cancer can be very silent to others but very loud for the person living with it. I may look healthy on the outside, but you can’t see my scar, the constant aches, or the worry that sits quietly in the background. This diagnosis is now part of my life — but I’ve chosen to let it shape me in a positive way.
EHE has made me more aware of people. It’s made me a doer. When I was first diagnosed, so many people asked how they could help — and I didn’t know what to say. Now, I see this fundraiser as one clear way to channel that support into something meaningful.
