Event Description

No Rush November - Feather Light Edition
A Month to Slow Down, Bond, and Enjoy Each Moment with Your Horse
This November, while other parts of the horse world might be inclined to drop their stirrups right when the winds pick up and the cooler temps arrive, we at WARHORSE are turning down the volume. We are encouraging one another to rekindle chasing a feeling of lightness and gentle cues. A feeling of the kind where the cues are so soft, they feel like a feather.
What is the bling:
Every participant will receive a stunning, custom-made, made in the USA leather saddle feather to hang on their rig—a daily visual reminder not only of this special training time with your horse, though also to keep your hands soft, your seat deep, and your connection feather-light. Plus, you'll be entered to win a buckle display handmade by our giveaway sponsor,  Straight 2 The Top Designs sponsor giveaway!  (Photos of the buckle display coming soon!)

This month, we would like you to niche down to one horse that you dedicate this time to, you are the student and the curator.  This month it is time to plan your training, you can go off of your own experience or decide if you'd like to dig into online articles and videos of the trainers who inspire you.  Yes, you share in the group &  show us how you plan on bringing those feather-light techniques into your trails, fields, pastures, arena or round pen. Completely optional, though we would love it if you decide to post in the  WARHORSE Challenges fb group to inspire others and be inspired by what others are doing on their own journey.

HOW IT WORKS!
Weekly Themes
Each week, spend at least 15 minutes training the same horse 4 times a week, on the week's theme activity in the way you choose to work with them, on ground or in saddle or cart. Feel free to do more time if you like, though please keep it to the same horse for this particular event, if you can.  The goal is simply to enjoy this time with your horse.  15 minutes is the minimum, you might decide once you are out there to do more!  The themes each week has a focus, though you decide the goal to work on.
Those are the 4 weekly themes for skill refinement and bonding with our horses:

Sample of the 4-Week "Feather-Light" Roadmap
(These are examples to inspire you to imagine how your week by week focus could look like, you pick your own skill to work on)
Week 1: Something Old
This is just an example of 1 thing to work on, though you decide what to work on Example➔ Feather-Light Transitions
The Concept: Testing the invisible aids. If you use a scale of 1 to 4 (1 being a whisper, 4 being a firm demand), can you get your upward and downward transitions down to a level 1 whisper?
Work on a cue or skill that your horse already knows. Use this time to just be present with your horse.
Week 2: Discover Something New

Introduce a new skill or cue to your horse. It can be as small or big as you choose—just explore something fresh together.

Example➔ Feather-Light Lateral Movement

This is just an example of 1 thing you could work on, though you decide what to work on.  For me last time it was to teach my mare to side pass to the mounting block, she loves doing this now, again, you decide what to work on, maybe it is voice commands or ground tying.  Introduce a new skill or cue to your horse. It can be as small or big as you choose—just explore something fresh together.

Week 3: Refine the Something Basic
Work on a basic skill that could use a little fine-tuning. This week is about improving something simple and building confidence.  It is surprising what things can get rusty overtime without us noticing it.  It could be rushing the gait, walking off too soon once the rider is mounted up or something as simple as being hard to catch.  Whatever basic thing you think your horse needs brushed up on, or maybe it is you that needs to work on sitting the trot or cueing for transitions, now is your time to take something basic that has gotten rusty over the summer and to shine it up.

Week 4: Something to Review (The Mastery Check) Reflect & Review
Focus: Putting the pieces together to "Finish Strong, But Softly." Showing a deep partnership doesn't always require miles on the trail, sometimes it is minutes closer to home.  I know that I have always said that too much trail riding can honestly untrained several things in a horse because they get onto near auto-pilot at times following the trail on a loose rein, well, November is a good as time as any to refresh, review and renew those skills- I hope you decide to join us for No Rush November where we slow down, settle in and make sure the cues are well oiled before winter.
