We are living in unprecedented times in our country today. Now more than ever, we must “renew, retrain, and reclaim our health.” And, right now, is the best time to do so! The introduction of COVID19 has posed a threat to Madison Dane County, Wisconsin, the United States and the World. We at the Madison Gospel 5K Foundation recognize that this present situation has resulted in a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness in our communities. As the city of Madison begins to slowly and carefully open up, each local community is beginning to find their own new normal in a safe way. We at MG5K, want you to know our race was approved to take place on July 18th at Penn Park at 8am. With that being said, we are working hard to provide you an amazing experience. However, there are many adjustments that we will have to make to ensure everyone’s safety.
With your support, we will be hosting our Second Annual Madison Gospel 5K "Socially Distanced" Run/Walk with a focus on providing a safe, fun, competitive racing experience for the participants while adhering to all local and state regulations, CDC social distancing and safety guidelines. There will be no health fair and a kid’s run this year! We repeat, there will be no health fair and a kid’s run this year!
Depending on what phase we are in by July 18th, to ensure maximum safety, we will only have up to 100 participants on the premises at any given time not including staff and volunteers per Forward Dane recommendations. If we exceed this number, we will request that each participant wait in their car until 10-15 minutes before it is their time to begin their race.
The event will take place on the South side of Madison at Penn Park. This looped course route was created to limit the need for participants to be in close proximity. Most of the course route will take place along the bike path which will ensure the safety of the participants, volunteers and spectators. Participants will arrive to pick up their race packets on Friday June 17th at Penn Park between the hours of 3p-7pm or on Saturday at Penn Park between the hours of 7am-8am. Participants are required to wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of distancing from staff and other participants.
The mission of the Madison Gospel 5K Run/Walk is to unite the Madison community in exercising our faith, fellowship, and building a healthier city through the promotion of healthy lifestyles in all its aspects. This year proceeds will go towards creating programs aimed at improving the health of Madison residents, particularly people of color with historical barriers to healthcare access and providing financial relief to families who are experiencing hardship at this time.
Lastly, for those who registered to participate in the MG5K run/walk in person but now wants to do virtual please email us at email@example.com by July 10th. In the subject heading please state I want to switch my in person registration to a virtual registration. We will be certain to make sure that you receive all your swag as though you were participating in person.
Thank your all for your continued support!!! One thing we at MG5K know for certain is that if we can have an opportunity to come together, support one another we know we will make it through.
Participants will receive some amazing swag, a short-sleeve t-shirt (available ONLY until July 1st) and an awesome finisher medal.
Thank you and see you all on race day!!!!!

For those of you who are unsure as to where to park. Here are some tips:
There is a limited amount of parking space near Penn Park. Parking is based on a first come, first served. So the earlier you are able to come the better your chances of getting parking near the event’s location.
Park Bank was so gracious to allow about 30 plus cars to park in their parking lot. Please know that the only place you can park is in the area that is highlighted in red on the map. When coming from the Beltline the highlighted section will be on your right side. Secondly, participants can park on Taft St, Fisher St., on certain parts of Baird St., Beld St. and Kenward St. Most of these streets are highlighted in blue on the map.

Here is our 5K course route. The event will take place on the South side of Madison at Penn Park. This looped course route was created to limit the need for participants to be in close proximity. Most of the course route will take place along the bike path which will ensure the safety of the participants, volunteers and spectators. Also, this route will reduce the need for law enforcement to manage the course.
On the course route there will be a 1 mile, 2 mile and a 3.1 mile (5K) marked route. Originally, we planned for a kid’s run but due to the inability to maintain social distancing we will have the children run/walk alongside their parents while ensuring that people are at least 6 feet from others whenever possible.
The course begins at Penn Park leading onto Baird St. From there the route will continue onto Wingra Creek Path, also known as the Wingra Bike Path, which runs along the winding waterway in Madison. The route continues and runs through Goodman Park and Quann Park onto Olin Avenue. At the end of the route, participants will reach the Turville Point Conservation Park and will loop around back to Penn Park.
