This is not the news we wanted to share with you today, but after very thoughtful consideration, Madison Festivals, Inc. has decided to cancel Run Madtown 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Through many conversations with our Board of Directors, public health and government officials, and our associates at Race Day Events, we decided we could not, in good faith, host a large event despite recent reports that Wisconsin may be starting to “flatten the curve”. It is our responsibility to keep our participants, spectators, sponsors, and staff safe so that we can enjoy many more races together in the future. Furthermore, we did not want to postpone a decision that might prevent you from making other plans for race weekend.
We understand you have been training and were anticipating a great race to kick off summer. We encourage you to continue running and being active while following public health guidelines. During this time of uncertainty, running can be a constant, an escape, and a familiar friend. Although we cannot run together in May, in the end we will run together even stronger.
As a small Wisconsin non-profit organization, Madison Festivals, Inc. is grateful for the unwavering support we have received over the years from our participants and our sponsors. In an effort to preserve our ability to continue to provide amazing events that support our local community, we must uphold our no refunds policy. The effort that goes in to planning an event of this magnitude is well underway and a large portion of our expenditures have already occurred. We appreciate your understanding during this unprecedented time. There are however options to defer your race entry to Run Madtown 2021, transfer your entry to the Madison Marathon 2020 (including 5K and 10K routes), or donate your registration fee. Please make your decision by April 19th, 12 AM CST. If you are registered for a Conquer the Capital Challenge you will receive a separate email with further instruction. Please do not make a selection on this form.
This situation is unprecedented and uncharted territory for all of us. We sense the nerves of our community and although we share your uncertainty, we remain hopeful. The acts of kindness and
support we have witnessed give us encouragement for the future, and we are thankful to be part of such a strong and resilient community. We thank you for your continued patience as we navigate these new waters together.
President, Madison Festivals, Inc
