New Date: April 25, 2021
We recently heard from Milwaukee County Parks that they are not issuing permits for any events until at least October so we are forced to cancel the 2020 Run 4 Water MKE. We are looking forward to next year's race on Sunday, April 25, 2021 and we'll share more details of that race as it gets closer.
If you already registered for the 2020 event, you have the option to roll over your registration to the 2021 race or get a refund. For the sake of EWB@UWM's finances we would prefer to roll your registration over to the 2021 race however, if that doesn't work for you, we would be happy to refund the registration fee as we understand that the times are tough for many of us. Please let us know your decision either way by visiting the RunSignUp website and choosing one of the two options.
Thanks for your support of the Run 4 Water and EWB@UWM and we hope you'll be able to join us next year!
In 2021 Milwaukee is going to celebrate United Nations World Water Day at the 9th annual Run 4 Water MKE on April 25! The 5K run/walk will symbolize distances traveled to access water in other parts of the globe. All proceeds from the Run 4 Water MKE go to projects designed and built by Engineers Without Borders at UW-Milwaukee providing clean water to villages in rural Guatemala.
The race starts at 9:00 am near the Gift of Wings kit store in Veterans Park on the shore of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee.
Additional race information can be found at http://www.run4watermke.org.

Run and walk for water, so others don't have to!
In many parts of the world, access to water is very difficult. A major chore for the day involves walking an average of 3 miles each way to provide water for the family.
Run 4 Water MKE Mission:
Our mission is to acknowledge the importance of water in the daily lives of all human beings. Our annual walk/run is a statement of unity with the effort involved to access water. This mission is congruent with the United Nations World Water Day: http://www.unwater.org/worldwaterday/
Top three female and top three male finishers in each age group listed below will receive recognition and a medal.
The largest team will get to keep the traveling trophy in their office for a year! The awards ceremony will start promptly at 10:00 AM (1 hour after the start of the race).
For the safety of the participants, volunteers, and the community as a whole we have decided to postpone the Run 4 Water MKE until August 30, 2020. If you are already registered, please see RunSignup for options.
Though the outbreak will likely be under much better control in August, we will implement several social distancing measures to make the event safer for participants and volunteers alike. We ask that runners not congregate near the Start/Finish line at the beginning and end of the race but rather space themselves out along the sidewalks leading away from the line following social distancing guidelines. The race chips on your race bib won't start timing you until you cross the Start/Finish line so there is no need to bunch up in close proximity with other participants before the start of the race. How far back you are from the Start/Finish line when the race officially starts has no impact on your ability to compete for medals and have your actual race time compared with others for the purpose of winning awards. If you are one of the small group of runners who isn't just interested in running a fast time but wants to actively race against other people, we will call you to come up to the line just before we start the race to minimize the amount of time you need to close to others. While we always take food safety seriously, we will evaluate the conditions at the time of the race and determine whether we are safely able to offer a water stop during the race and how we might modify our food and beverage offerings after the race to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the participants. If there are any other health guidelines in place on race day that we can use to make the race a safer experience for all we will certainly review those and make additional changes as well.
Thank you for your understanding and support and we hope to see you in August!
