Description

It's National Ding-A-Ling day so why not have a 5K, 10K & 1/2 marathon to celebrate it. Ok, it is just another excuse to hold a run at our favorite park, Nashotah Park. Since Bucks & Does was such a success, we are going to run the course in the same direction. In the event we do not meet a minimum participation level, the event will be cancelled and all registration fees will be refunded.

The in-person race is Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Virtual Option!

Not ready to run in person or don't happen to be near Wisconsin? We have a virtual option! Run anytime between Saturday, December 12th & Saturday, December 19th. You can automatically upload your results by using RaceJoy.

What is National Ding-A-Ling Day?

It's a little unclear, but we love the name. Add a thousand jingle bells and it certainly will be fun! All runners will receive jingle bells at packet pickup, and are encouraged to wear them during the race. Ding-A-Ling day give you a pass to act a little weird for the day. Take advantage of it and wear your best Holiday themed costume!

Weather

It is Wisconsin and the race is in December. Will it be cold? Maybe. Will there be snow? Maybe. Will we run regardless of the weather? Absolutely.

If you're going to run, you might as well have fun doing it so join us for National Ding-A-Ling Day 5K, 10K & 1/2 marathon.

Race Courses

The trails are well groomed and mostly wood chipped.  There is a portion that is grass, but it is well maintained. Over 60% of the course is shaded with trees.

The course distances will not be exact since it is trail running, and as nice as the park people are, they won't let us cut down trees to make new paths. If you ran the Lapham Peak race (at Nashotah) last September, it is the course in reverse. Easier? Maybe, maybe not...

5K - 1 lap inside - 3.21 miles
10K - 2 laps inside - 6.42 miles
Half - one lap inside, 2 laps outside - 13.03 miles
The outside laps are run first.

Inside course loop map | Outside course loop map

The course is market with 12X12 turn arrows, 3' tall course signs and cones. It does not use the traditional ultra trail tape or markings. It is very well marked and you do not need to try and memorize the course.

This will be a wave start race. Waves of 10 people will start every 30 seconds. There will be 10 rows of cones with 10 cones per row spaced 10 feet apart. You will self assign your wave on race day by selecting the wave and standing next to a cone. The announcer will start each wave. We ask that people social distance at least 10 feet while in the park and wait until 10 minutes prior to the start of the race to select your wave. Your time will not start until you cross the start line. As you make your way from the wave to the start, please continue to social distance by 10 feet.

Face Coverings

Based on our current permits, face coverings are now required at events. Here is how it will work:

Anyone in the “Arena” is required to wear a face covering. The Arena is defined as anywhere other than on the race course. This includes registration, packet pickup, parking areas, finish line, start line, restrooms, beer line, medal line, anywhere near other people. If you are within 10’ of anyone, at any time, a face covering is required.

Once you are on course, face coverings do not need to be worn, provided you are at least 10 feet from another person. At the start, you are spaced 10’ from others - we strongly encourage you to keep that distance. If you need to pass, call out “on your left” and move as far left as you can. Once you have passed a runner and you are at least 10’ in front of them, move back to the right.

We encourage runners to consider using running buffs while running near others. Buffs are available on our merchandise website.

When you cross the finish line, please move outside of the arena for your cool down. Once your cool down is complete, a face covering is again required.

If we want to keep running in person events together (and we do!), it is imperative that we exceed our permit requirements. Waukesha County is one of the few places in America that is open to in person events. It is up to our running community to prove that we can hold events safely.
