Grind Up Granite is Back!!!!
The the Swenor CXC Cup is back and the Wausau Grind Up Granite race is one stop on the schedule. The event will be in Wausau at Rib Mountain State Park on Sunday, August 27th. Grind up Granite will feature classic and skate race options to race to the top of Rib Mountain with a total climb of 700 feet in 2.5 miles. The race begins near South Mountain Elementary School and will proceed with a gradual uphill until you reach State Park Road and than the fun begins. You can select to ski in either event or you can test yourself doing both disciplines. If you ski both, you will be included in the standings for each discipline plus the overall combined time event.
CXC Cup Participants: Those participating in the Swenor CXC Cup series must ski in the combined event. You will also be provided Swenor rollerskis for your race. There is an extra $5 fee for series participants. Skiers not participating in the CXC Cup can use whatever rollerskis they want.
Logistics: The race starts at South Mountain Elementary School which is also where registration and race check-in will be as well as awards after the race. Transportation will be provided for those needing a ride back down the hill. There will also be an option for skiers to run/walk back down the hill with a shorter trail. We will bring your shoes to the finish line and carry your gear back down for you. Skiing down the hill is not allowed and anyone who does will be removed from the results. If someone plans to meet you at the top with a car, you will be required to purchase a daily vehicle pass if you do not have an annual sticker already. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of both races.

Course Information
The race headquarters will be in the South Mountain Elementary School building. The running race will begin as a mass start at the end of the parking area and continue on Fern Ln to the State Park. Runners will the continue up the walking path to the top. The skiers and bikers will start on Fern Ln. Once skiers and bikers turn left onto Violet ln, they should race on the LEFT hand side of the road up to the cross walk and then continue up the mountain on the right hand side of the road. Interval starts will be used for both the bikers and skiers and will use the road for their races. Please see maps at the race venue.
