Quality of Life Rides

 

Faith in Action volunteers have been providing seniors in Kanawha and Putnam transportation to medical appointments and the grocery store for almost 10 years, but transportation is a barrier to more than just healthcare or food.

Every time we do a new evaluation survey of the people we serve, the most requested new program is transportation to non-medical activities, like the hair salon/barber shop, DMV for ID renewals, shopping just for fun, and visits with family or friends in nursing homes or assisted living.

We have been exploring ways to address these requests through the development and implementation of a new program called ‘Quality of Life Rides.’ Owning our own transport van would kick the door wide open for implementing a truly effective Quality of Life Rides program, while also opening up opportunities for increased social engagement, community connection, and mental stimulation for those we serve.
