Where is the walk?
The NEW ROUTE is a loop down Main Street in Westminster from Westminster City Park and back. No more hike back to your car after the walk! We will depart from the pavilion side of City Park and make our way to Main Street, cross and turn left immediately, and continue to the Bond/John Street intersection where we will cross over and head back to the park!
Please take a look at the PDF attached to the right - it's a route map!
Where should I park?
There is free parking available around downtown Westminster. The most convenient location is the Longwell lot/garage located at 10 Longwell Avenue.
What happens if there is inclement weather?
The walk is rain or shine! We do have a snow date scheduled for April 14, 2019, at the same time and location. Please check our Facebook page for updates! If you are a registered walker, you will also receive an notification email.
How much does it cost to participate?
Registration fees are as follows: $35 general (includes t-shirt), $20 student (includes t-shirt), 12 and under $5 (no t-shirt). Beginning on March 30, 2019, prices will increase to $40 general, $25 student, 12 and under will remain at $5, and t-shirts will no longer be included.
How are funds raised at Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® used?
The funds raised at Walk a Mile are used to provide free and confidential services to people in our community who have been impacted by sexual violence. These services include a 24-hour hotline (410-857-7322), free counseling with a licensed therapist, hospital/court/police accompaniments, walk-in crisis intervention services, educational programs, and referrals.
Can women walk too?
Absolutely! This event primarily focuses on getting men involved, but we believe that both men, women and children walking together sends a powerful message of support and solidarity. Sexual violence effects everyone of every gender!
Do I have to register before the event?
We encourage all walkers to register by April 11, 2019. Walk-in registration will be available the morning of the event. Please be advised that if you register after March 29, you will not receive a t-shirt with your registration.
How do I register?
You can register via our website: www.walkamilecc.org
Can teams enter?
Absolutely! During registration you will have the opportunity to create a team. Once you have registered, others can join your team during their registration process.
What if I can't make it after I have registered and paid to participate?
Your registration fee will not be refunded if you do not attend.
I can't be at the walk, but I want to support.
You may make a donation via our website (https://www.rapecrisiscc.org/donate/), send a check to RCIS, or donate to a team or registered walker!
Do I have to raise additional funds to participate in the walk?
We encourage every walker to raise $50, but it is not a requirement.
What if a friend or family member wants to donate but doesn't have access to the internet?
A donation can be made by check by mailing to: RCIS, PO Box 1563, Westminster MD 21158. Please have your friend or family member indicate on the check or in an enclosed letter that their donation is for Walk a Mile, and reference your name so that we can apply it properly to you or your team.
Do I have to wear high heels?
High heels are not required, but they are a fun and challenging addition to this event! If you would prefer, consider wearing other types of footwear such as colorful flip-flops or fluffy slippers.
Do I have to provide my own shoes?
Yes! Unfortunately, we are not able to provide shoes. Depending on your shoe size you might be able to find shoes at local retailers, or online at Amazon, or ledame.com.
Do I really have to walk a mile?
The route we have planned is approximately one mile. However, if you are physically unable to continue please feel free to shorten your route.
Will there be awards?
Yes, we have an award for highest individual fundraiser and an award for highest team fundraiser. To be eligible for the highest individual award, you cannot be a member of a team. Trophies will be presented and winners interviewed live on air on WTTR, "The Voice of Carroll County" after fundraising closes!
