Race Day Info

Toilet Situation

The BLM put in a second vault toilet at the lower trailhead, meaning there are now 4 toilets available near the start line. Give yourself plenty of time before the race to access one of the toilet options, as we will be relying on the existing vaults with no additional portapotties.

Race Day Parking

We utilize several trailhead parking locations to fit everyone in. Carpool if possible. Depending on when you arrive and where you park, you may have up to half-mile walk from your car to the start area, so plan accordingly. You can stash a bag in the drop bag area for the finish if you'd like. When you arrive, parking attendants will direct you where to park. Please be polite and don't give them a hard time! They are volunteers who are out there for you and also have experience with how to get everyone parked in the limited space in an organized manner.

Check In

Arrive within the hour before your race starts (not before 6AM) to pick up your packet and bib # in the white tent in the start area. There is space in the tent for you to leave stuff if you don't want to go back to your car.

Race Day Signups

After registration closes, you can sign up on race morning. Cash only. $100 for 50k/20M and $80 for the 10 mile.

Multi-Use, Non-Exclusive Trails

The Wilson Creek Trail Management Area is open to mountain bikers, horse riders, bird hunters, ATV riders, recreational shooters, campers, etc. The trails aren't exclusively for race use, even on race day, so share the trails and be friendly ambassadors for our sport to anyone you see. Pick up after yourself and pick up other people's trash if you are able.

Course Marking

The course is marked with plastic flagging.
The 10 mile loop is marked with green flags and reflectors.
The 20 mile loop is marked with orange flags.
50k runners: run the 20 mile loop (following orange) followed by the 10 mile loop (following green)

50k Pre-Race Briefing

Make sure you check in before the race and are wearing your bib # with timing chip
You have two jobs out while racing:
1. Stay on course. This is a closed course; follow the markings.
2. Check in at every aid station!! We track each runner via HAM radio through every single aid station. Make sure the person acknowledged your number. Let an aid station or race official know if you are dropping out. Every year, we have to call someone's emergency contact looking for them only to find they've hit the sauna already. We don't want to do that.

Follow the out and back to Wilson Peak summit. As you are approaching, you will see the radio towers to your right. Go to them.
At the summit, collect an item from the green bag on the radio tower and show it to the folks at Mud Pit aid station.

YOU WILL DO THE 20 MILE LOOP FIRST FOLLOWED BY THE 10 MILE LOOP
Follow the ORANGE flagging for your first 20 mile loop
Follow the GREEN flagging for the second 10 mile loop.

You have a 3:00 PM cutoff at mile 20.3 at the Pulse Paradise aid station. You must leave Paradise by 3PM to keep going.
Make sure you have a headlamp if leaving Paradise aid station in the afternoon.
If you drop at 20 miles, that's a DNF, not a 20 mile finish. 20 mile racers do have the option to bump up to 50k at Paradise.

Pick up your award at the end - top 3 in each age division. We don't do an awards ceremony because the races are so spread out. Make sure to check and see if you're in the top 3 for your age.
Frozen Stiff award for the last place 50k.

20 Mile Pre-Race Briefing

Make sure you check in before the race and are wearing your bib # with timing chip.
You have two jobs out while racing:

We don't want to do that.

Follow the ORANGE flagging for your entire race.
If you find yourself in a place where you're only seeing green flagging, go back to the last place you saw orange and try again.

If you're registered in the 20 mile and decide you're having a great day and want to keep going at Paradise aid station, you can bump up to the 50k on the fly. Make sure to let the aid station know.

Follow the out and back to Wilson Peak summit. As you are approaching, you will see the radio towers to your right. Go to them.
At the summit, collect an item from the green bag on the radio tower and show it to the folks at Mud Pit aid station.

The 10 Mile course is marked with GREEN flagging. You will also see orange flagging on the course. That is for 50k/20Mile runners. You should never be following JUST orange flags. If you find yourself seeing orange flags but no green, go back to the last spot you saw a green marking and try again.

You have two aid stations, at miles 5 & 7.

Pick up your award at the end - top 3 in each age division. We don't do an awards ceremony because the races are so spread out. Make sure to check and see if you're in the top 3 for your age.
