NEW TO WOLFMAN?
You don't have to be a seasoned triathlete to become a Wolfie. The Wolfman is challenging—but the distances are doable, and you don't need to be fast. What matters is being prepared for the three different legs and knowing what to expect when you arrive.
A relay or tandem can be a great way to experience the event with others without taking on all three legs yourself.
HOW CAN I DO THE WOLFMAN?
SOLO
One person completes all three legs: paddle, mountain bike, and trail run.
TANDEM
Two people share a double boat for the paddle. For the bike and run, you can stay together or complete the legs separately.
RELAY
A three-person team, with one person completing each discipline: paddle, bike, or run. Two-person relays are not currently supported for timing or awards—you may compete as a two-person team, but you will not receive individual timing splits or be eligible for awards.
Essentials
SECURE YOUR BOAT
If you’re new to whitewater paddling or don’t have equipment suited for rapids, we highly recommend renting or purchasing a sit-on-top kayak.
A sit-on-top is easier to re-enter if you capsize, and you may also have a faster river split. Sit-on-top kayaks also don’t require the 30% flotation rule that applies to traditional kayaks.
Important: Pool noodles, inner tubes, and bubble wrap are not acceptable flotation materials.

TRAIN
In June and early August, we host Pre-Wolfie Clinics for both mountain biking and whitewater paddling. Once you register for the race, watch your email and our Facebook page for clinic dates and details. These weekend sessions typically include a full day of whitewater paddling and a half day of mountain biking. Do both, or choose the one you need most. It’s a great way to get comfortable with the course before race weekend.
Our awesome sponsors can help you plan your training weekend:
