Race FAQ

Wait Lists

There is no wait list available in 2024. Please join our Facebook page, participants can post if they would like to transfer before July 1st.

Refunds and Cancellations

Our race does not offer deferrals or refunds. We cannot offer refunds if the race is cancelled due to situations beyond the control of YWCA Minneapolis.

We know unforeseen medical circumstances occur. Please purchase race insurance if you would like to protect your race. You may also opt to transfer your bib to another racer before July 1st 2024.  Transfers not completed by this date will not be valid.

Race Transfers and Distance Changes

All changes are due by July 1st 2024.  These include:

Changes: 
You can change your race category (distance, individual to buddy group etc). You can also change the answers to your questions, your race shirt size, and many other things. Cut off for changes is the end of June.  Please Click Here for a simple tutorial

You may transfer your race to another participant at any time in your race registration. It is $5 per transfer. The transfer must be complete by July 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.  

Packet Pick Up & Expo

Saturday August 10, 10:00am - 4:00pm

Lake Nokomis Main Beach: 5001 Lake Nokomis Pkwy, Minneapolis MN 55417

If you cannot pick up your packet in the Saturday time window, please add on "Day of Packet Pick Up" to your registration. Please Click Here for a simple tutorial. If you choose this option, we will make sure your packet and bib are assigned and ready on race morning.  Packet pick-up on the morning of August 11th is 6:00 - 7:00 am. If you did not choose this option prior to August 1st, you may have to wait longer and will also be charged $20 on the day of. If you arrive later than 7:00 am, you risk not receiving your race number and chip and therefor not being able to race. 

You cannot pick up others packets.  Relays will be assigned a designated captain. This is the national standard for the sport triathlon. 

Bib numbers, wave start times, and transition racks will be preassigned this year. 

Estimated Race Day Timeline

5:30am Chip pick up and Transition area opens

7:45am Transition area closes. Only racers in process will be allowed in. 

8:00am pre-race updates, national anthem, and celebration! 

8:10 Race starts! Estimated order of starting

  • VIP Sprint (elite and fundraisers)
  • Sprint Relays and family teams
  • Sprint Age groups 
  • Sprint Buddy group
  • VIP Super Sprint Fundraisers
  • Super Sprint age group 
  • Super Sprint buddy group 

~9:10 all racers out of the water

~9:20 First racers start to cross the finish line

~11:30 All racers done with biking and Transition Area re-opens. Regardless of when you finish you will not be able to get your bike out of transition until all racers have completed their second transition. This is for safety and fairness. 

12:00 Gratitude Ceremony, awards, and door prizes along with cheering on any remaining racers! 

 In addition to overall and age group awards we will be doing popular voting awards for racers and volunteers showing the best spirit! Door prizes will be last and you must be present to win. 

1:00pm Go home and bask in the glory of accomplishment! 

Safety Rules
  • Bike helmets must be on your head and clipped any time you are on your bike, even before and after the race. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification. 
  • We offer a white "novice" swim cap if you feel you may need extra lifeguard eyes or feel anxiety surrounding the swim.
  • Volunteer “noodle swimmers” will be available for support. You may rest of the noodles but not make any forward motion.
  • Life jackets, swim safety buoys, or any personal flotation devises are not permitted. 
  • Wetsuits are allowed if the water temperature is under 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Above 84 degrees wetsuits become a serious hazard for heat injury. We will take the water temperature on race morning by 7am. 
  • Bike drafting is not allowed. You must keep three bike lengths between you and the biker in front of you. If you are passed you must allow for three bike lengths to open up. 
  • No blocking. You must ride your bike as far to the right as is safe. You may not ride side by side with a friend. You must pass decisively. 
  • NO MUSIC. No earbuds or headphones of any kind at any point in the race. Triathlons are more complicated than running races. It’s important that it is easy to communicate with you. 
  • No littering or abandoning equipment. You may not discard clothing, helmets, sunglasses etc along the race course.
