How does the Zoo Move and Groove 5K benefit the Phoenix Zoo?
The non-profit Phoenix Zoo inspires and motivates people to care for the natural world. Through your support of fundraising events like Zoo Move & Groove, the Phoenix Zoo can continue invaluable breeding programs in our conservation center that enable us to protect threatened and endangered species, care for our animals and educate future generations.
What if I am not a runner, but still want to participate and support the Zoo?
Not a runner? Hibernate and stay cozy at home while still supporting the Zoo. All registered participants of Hibernate at Home will receive a commemorative shirt as well as the option to purchase a commemorative medal and/or additional shirts for $15 each.
Please note, you will need to pick up your shirt on a Packet Pick-up Day or at the Zoo after the event. If you choose to pick it up after the event, you will be notified by email when your shirt is ready, as well as pick-up instructions.
Can I walk or do I have to run?
Zoo Move & Groove is for all ages and ability levels. Both runners and walkers are welcome. We ask that slower runners and walkers start toward the back of the pack.
Are strollers allowed in the 5K?
Yes! Zoo Move & Groove is a family fun event. Bring the whole family! We ask that those with strollers start towards the back of the pack.
Can I bring my dog?
No. Pets are not allowed unless they are certified and vetted service animals.
When do I pick up my packet?
Times are subject to change. You will choose from these three days to pick up your packet:
Tuesday, January 14, 2025 3 – 7 p.m.
Wednesday, January 15, 2025 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Thursday, January 16, 2025 3 – 7 p.m.
For those that didn’t pick up their packet on the above dates/times, their packet will be available beginning at 4 p.m. on race day at the registration tent.
What do I receive in my packet?
You will receive a shirt (size chosen when registering) and a race bib. Your race bib will serve as your ticket into the exclusive ZooLights night after the race (January 18, 2025). Your race bib will also have perforated tabs for your hot cocoa, which can be redeemed during the ZooLights portion of the event.
Can I pick up my friend’s packet?
Yes. You will need the name they registered under to do so.
I missed the race. Can you mail my packet?
Unfortunately, we are not able to mail race packets. We would be happy to schedule a time for pick up at the Phoenix Zoo. Please contact specialevents@phoenixzoo.org
Does everyone get a shirt and medal?
Every registrant will get this year’s conservation animal themed Sport-Tek race shirt. A medal is NOT included with registration. For an additional $15, you may purchase a medal and support the non-profit Phoenix Zoo. You can purchase additional race shirts for $15.

Will I receive a medal?
A medal is NOT included with registration. For an additional $15, you may purchase a medal and support the non-profit Phoenix Zoo.
Can I buy a medal on race day?
Medals are limited and on first-come, first-served basis. If medals are available on race day, they will be sold at packet pick-up, the registration table and at the Lakeside tent. All proceeds benefit the non-profit Phoenix Zoo.
Can I buy an additional shirt?
Yes. You can purchase an additional shirt online in advance for $15. Your shirt will be ready for pick up with your packet. Extra shirts will be available for purchase on race day; however, this is subject to availability.
The shirt in my packet doesn’t fit, can I exchange it for a different size?
Shirts are ordered in advance according to what you selected when you registered online. You are welcome to exchange after the race, however, shirts sizes are extremely limited and subject to availability.
Can I go to ZooLights any night with my Zoo Move & Groove registration?
No. Registration for Zoo Move & Groove includes admission into an exclusive ZooLights evening on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 5:30 – 9 p.m. This does not give you entry into any other ZooLights night.
What is included with the spectator ticket? How can I buy a spectator ticket?
Spectators will receive entry into the exclusive Zoo Move & Groove ZooLights night on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 6 – 9 p.m. Spectators do not receive admission into the Zoo during the day, a shirt, food or beverage.

I don’t want the shirt, food or beverage, do I have to pay the full registration fee?
Yes. Zoo Move & Groove is a fundraising event for the non-profit Phoenix Zoo. Registration fees apply to all of those participating in the 5K.
Are there additional discounts for Zoo Move & Groove?
Because of the fundraising nature of the event, no additional discounts will be offered.
Can I register day of race?
Yes. Registration opens at 4 p.m. Shirt sizes are subject to availability.
Will there be port-a-potties or restrooms on the course?
Yes. There will be port-a-potties available near registration. Inside the Zoo, you are welcome to stop at one of the existing restrooms on the race route (Plaza, near elephants and near Monkey Village).
