Should there be any information that you do not find in this guide, please be sure to check the SCHEDULE and FAQ section of the website for updates.

COVID Travel Plans and Questionnaire

On Wednesday, March 31st, we will send out a COVID questionnaire, based on the CDC recommendations, asking a list of symptoms. Should you answer YES to any of the questions, please reach out to us and we will happily defer your registration to the 2022 date, at no cost.

THIS COVID QUESTIONNAIRE IS MANDATORY AND MUST BE COMPLETED BY ALL!!

There are currently no travel restrictions for the State of Maryland. All parties are encouraged to either quarantine or receive a negative COVID test prior to race day, but these are not required.

FINISH TIMES

This course has an overall 7 hour time limit, and is based off of the Full Marathon. Any runner that falls below a 16 min/mile pace average on course may be removed from course so that we can re-open roadways. This 16 min/mile average will be strictly enforced.

**Based on a final Marathon Start time (last runner over the start line) by 7:25 am, all runners approaching the Marathon/Half-marathon split point at Mile 10.8 AFTER 10:20 am,  will be directed to the half marathon course. They will receive a finish time for the half marathon. **

*The 16 minute/mile pace for the Half-Marathon will begin when the last half marathoner crosses the start mat**

TCR EVENT MANAGEMENT APP

This app is the same used at the Boston Marathon and events throughout the world! With this app you can find out pertinent information such as the schedule for awards, look at the course, take a selfie and, most importantly TRACK YOUR RUNNERS!!!

Be sure to find the app in the Google Play Store or on Apple by searching TCR EVENT MANAGEMENT!!

BIB NUMBER

Q. What is my bib number for the event? Why haven’t I seen any bib numbers? When will I know my bib number?

Bib numbers, and Wave assignments, will occur around March 12th, so that we can get the bibs mailed out on the 15th for those who cannot make it to a packet pickup on Thursday or Friday. The bib numbers will coincide with the Wave number that you are assigned, based on your estimated finish times. Bibs will be color coded by wave, and we will strictly enforce the wave assignments, as we are restricted in the numbers that we are allowed to gather at one time, in one place.

Q. But how will my friends be able to track me?

A. All runners are already loaded on our app. By going to the LIVE TRACKING section of our app (found under TCR Event Management) you can enter last name and have your family and friends track you!

Q. Where does my bib number go?

A. Your bib has a MyLaps Bibtag timing chip on the backside. Your bib also has YOUR unique bib number to it. In order to accurately track your running AND to ensure that you are able to get all of those great (and FREE!!!) race photos, we ask that you wear your bib number visibly on your chest/waist area. Please do not plan to wear any garments over your bib, as this will make identification for photos more difficult. Please wear the bib horizontally, so that our photo recognition software can read it, and so that the timing chip can accurately be registered on the mats.

RUCK DIVISION

Want to see something AMAZING?!? Did you know that we have a RUCK division? What is a RUCK? It is a weighted pack that participants will carry during the entirety of their course!! As a special addition to the event, we have asked that our Ruckers have their 20 pound weight as FOOD ITEMS THAT WE CAN DONATE!!!

That’s right!! We will ask the ruckers to empty their bags, with their food items for those in need, right at the finish line, so that everyone can see!

These amazing participants will be out on course with you, and have to maintain the same 16 min/mile pace that you do, so when you see them out there, CHEER THEM ON!!!

RACE DAY

PARKING ON RACE MORNING

The City of Salisbury graciously allows for the use of the City Parking Garage for our event on RACE DAY, FREE of charge!!! The garage is located at 110 Circle Avenue, Salisbury, MD.

Full and Half Marathon Participants – THERE WILL BE NO SHUTTLES from the garage this year due to spacing limitations.

The start line for the Full and Half are less than ½ mile away and can be found at the Bandstand at the City Park (521 S. Park Drive, Salisbury)

5k Participants

Your start area is approximately 2 blocks from the Parking Garage.

CORRAL STAGING

Corral staging will be in color coded areas, located near the start line for the Marathon/Half Marathon. There will be bag drop (described below) and designated port-o-johns, for each designated wave. YOU SHOULD BE IN THE CORRAL AREA THAT MATCHES YOUR BIB!!

There will be 200 people in each area, and you must wear your mask and stay socially distant from each other, per our Mitigation strategies. As we move from wave to wave, we will make announcements, telling which COLOR wave should step towards the start area.

After you drop your bag and use the port-o-john, you MAY wait in the area of S Park Drive, or warm up there, but you will not be allowed in the Start Chute until we call your wave. Temperatures will be taken as you enter the Start Chute.

GEAR BAGS

For the Full and Half-Marathon, we will provide you with a CLEAR PLASTIC BAG to put any clothes or items you would like moved from the start line to the finish line area. Please refrain from putting any valuables in this bag as we will not be responsible for lost or missing bags.

You may ONLY use the bag we provide as these bags are CLEAR for security purposes only. We will have sharpies on site FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS to write your number on the bag, and your bib will also have a detachable tab to affix to your bag with items we will have at the Check in area.

Gear Drop bags will be collected at the Bandstand area of the Start line for the Full and Half ONLY. 5k participants will not have a gear drop area, as you will be parked about 2 blocks from your start/finish area.

Once you finish, you will find your gear bags immediately after the finish line, in numerical order.  Please make sure to have your bib with you for collection of the bag. No other persons may collect your gear bag, unless they have your bib.

ON COURSE SUPPORT

Medical

We have medical staff out on course at various aide stations this year, as well as EMS Cyclists from Salisbury Fire Department. Your safety is our goal!

IF you should need any type of assistance and are able to move under your own power, you will be directed to make it either to the next, or previous, aide station, dependent on your proximity. IF you need assistance, please do not continue on course, with the hopes that we will find you. Go to the closest aide station and wait.

Pacers

Pacers are provided, as our friends from Beast Pacing will be out there to help you reach your goal. As you line up for the Full and Half Marathon, please look for the pacer for your estimated time.

               Marathon Pacers (hours:minutes)                           3:35, 3:50, 4:05, 4:20, 4:35, 5:00, 5:30

               Half Marathon Pacers (hours:minutes)                    1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00

Cyclists

We provide cyclists on course to help to guide runners and to be mobile eyes and ears, should any runner need emergency assistance. ONLY OUR CYCLISTS are authorized to be on course and they are on course for your safety.

AID STATIONS

Aid stations have changed, about a dozen times now, and we were hoping for looser restrictions on them but we have to plan for where we are RIGHT NOW. As of right now this is how aid stations will be:

Aid stations will be spaced every 2.5 to 3 miles with SELF SERVE tables at the stations. All aid stations will have BOTTLES OF WATER and  BOTTLES OF GATORADE for the athlete to grab and take. We encourage you to carry the bottle with you until the next aid station, but if it become too cumbersome, we will have EXTRA TRASH CANS out on course (almost every intersection) for you to throw them away. DO NOT THROW TRASH IN RESIDENTS’ YARDS (you wouldn’t want someone to do it in your yard!)!!!! We encourage, if you are comfortable, to bring your own hydration pack/belt to refill on the course, if you don’t want to carry the bottles around the course.

There will be pre-packaged Clif Bar Minis at every aid station, and Gu gels (Lemon Sublime – NON caffeinated, TriBerry – CAFFEINE) as well. All items will be on tables for you to grab YOURSELF. Volunteers are just on site to restock the items.

At each aid station we will have a port-o-john and hand sanitizer for use.

SPECTATORS ON COURSE

ALL SPECTATORS MUST SOCIALLY DISTANCE AND WEAR MASKS

PLEASE LET YOUR SPECTATORS KNOW!!!!

Maryland COVID Guidelines only allow for 250 persons to gather at one time, and this number, for events such as this, also include the spectators. We ask that you limit the number of spectators present, especially at the START LINE. This will be the most highly saturated area of people, and we want to stay within our limit. By utilizing the LIVE TRACKING functionality of the TCR EVENT MANAGEMENT app, spectators WILL know when their Marathon and Half Marathon runners are within 1 mile of the finish line, so that they can meet them at the finish. We ask that spectators not congregate at the finish line if their runner is not nearby.

Other than this location,  Spectators are discouraged from parking out on the course. Please understand that we take over a full lane of traffic for most of the race, and disrupt most residents typical day. If we have spectators parking on the side of the road and on people’s yards, then we disrespect our friends and the trust that they have given us in still allowing them to move around the County.

Bicyclists are NOT ALLOWED on course unless they are a part of our cycling team, out there to ensure that all of the runners are safe and not in need of assistance. If a spectator is riding with an athlete, that athlete MAY be disqualified from the course. The rider will be asked, by law enforcement, to leave the course.

IF you would like to be a part of the event and help ALL runners, feel free to check out the VOLUNTEER section of the main website at www.RunSBY.com

START LINE @ S Park Drive (Marathon/Half-Marathon)

MASKS!!! Wear your mask to the start. Wear it in the start corral. As soon as you start running your race, you MAY take your mask down (When you finish, put it back on!!). If you forget your mask at the start line, we will have disposable ones for you to take. No mask… no entry into the start corral.

Wave 1 – 7:00 am – Marathon (Blue Wave)

Wave 2 – 7:15 am – Marathon (Yellow Wave)

Wave 3 – 7:30 am – Half Marathon (Green Wave)

Wave 4 – 7:45 am – Half Marathon  (White Wave)

Wave times are determined by the estimated finish time you put down. All persons who register after the wave assignment cutoff of March 12th will be put in the second wave of their distance event, regardless of finish time. ALL RACERS ARE CHIP TIMED, SO YOUR TIME START WHEN YOU CROSS THE START LINE, SO PLACEMENT IS LESS IMPORTANT THAN A MASS START.

Marathon and Half Marathon – We will be starting in Waves of 200 people. Wave 1 will consist of 200 MARATHON runners, starting at 7am. You will have a color coded bib and ONLY that bib will be able to enter the corral for the 7am start. Inside the corral, there will be spaced cones that runners should stand next to. As the 6 runners in front of you move forward and start, please move up to the next set of cones.

Wave 2 will have a designated area to queue in, prior to being allowed to move to the start corral.

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE THEIR TEMPERATURE CHECKED AS THEY ENTER THE START CORRAL. IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL THAT MORNING, PLEASE LET US KNOW FOR A DEFERRAL TO THE 2022 EVENT!!! Any person with a temperature over 100.4F will be asked to leave immediately.

FINISH LINE

Our finish line is right on the downtown plaza area on Main Street, flanked on both sides by restaurants and shops. As you finish you event, you will move towards the N. Division Street exit and, along the way, grab your medal, something to drink and few items to snack on as you head back to the garage and your car.

Unfortunately we will not have beer or a finish line party this year, as we cannot have more than 250 people gathered in one place from Maryland protocols.

BUT WAIT!!! Our friends at Downtown SBY (www.downtownsby.com ) have a surprise for you!! EVERY participant will receive, in their SWAG bag, a $5 voucher for participating local restaurants and attractions, including MayaBella’s Pizza, The Ugly Pie, The Brick Room, Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill, Mogan’s Oyster House, Cake Art, The Mad Hatter/Looking Glass, Angellos Scoops and Unique Gifts, Evolution Craft Brewing, and Brew River. Local shops including the Bomshell Boutique, Lilac Clothing Company, Lurking Class Skate Shop, Escape Room Salisbury and The MudHud-Clay Art Studio, will also accept the $5 vouchers! Multiple Vouchers CAN be applied to the same check!

The awards will all be mailed to the age group and overall winners of the event. You will be able to see your finish time by checking out all of your splits on the TCR Event Management app (available on Apple and Google Play) and clicking on the RunSBY Events tab!
