Saluki Shuffle

Come join the Saluki Family Appreciation Week fun by participating in the Saluki Shuffle Virtual 5K!   

All SIU students, faculty, staff, family members and community supporters are encouraged to participate.   All who successfully complete the virtual 5K will be entered into a drawing for Saluki swag!   For more information, visit familyweekend.siu.edu  Sponsored by SIU’s Office of Student Engagement

What time does the event start?

The beauty of a virtual race is that you get to choose!  Our event is on Saturday, October 10 and your race has to start and end during that day, but beyond that is up to you. **Completion of the 5K will need to take place between 5:00am – 11:59pm CST  

How does a virtual 5k work?

Simply register for the Saluki Shuffle Virtual 5k,  complete the distance on Saturday, October 10 anywhere you desire (even on a treadmill!), and upload your finished time to the RunSignup website.  After everyone submits their time, we will randomly select 10 winners!  

Do I have to run?  What if I’m not a runner?

You don’t have to be a runner to join us!  Sprint, jog, or walk…we’re happy to have you in the Saluki Shuffle!

How do I track and enter my time?

To track your time, feel free to use FitBits, pedometers, or any running apps that track mileage.  If you are using a treadmill, take note of the miles/time provided. 

To enter your time, log into your RunerSignup account and enter your virtual 5k results under the "Results" tab.  If you have any issues uploading your results, email them to familyweekend@siu.edu  

How do I stay safe while participating?

Keeping you safe is our top priority--that's why we're holding a virtual event. We expect all participants to follow all local, state, and federal laws while participating, which includes abiding by all health guidance and restrictions in your area prior to undertaking any physical activity. These may include minimum distances from other people, crowd sizes, and/or protective gear requirements like masks or gloves. See the latest federal guidance from the CDC. With your help, we can all stay active and stay safe.

Share your progress and race photos on social media.  Make sure to tag the Office of Student Engagement (@SIUGetInvolved) and use the hashtag #salukishuffle. Show your Saluki Pride by wearing your SIU gear or school colors.
