About this Race Series

What Is Series Scoring?

  • Series Scoring adds a competitive twist to the Full Moon Trail Series by awarding points based on Age-Graded Results. Points determine leaderboard standings and end-of-season awards.

How Scoring Works

  • Points are awarded at each race based on Age-Graded Results.
  • Every finisher earns points - from first to last.
  • All participants are scored (both individual race entrants and full series runners).
  • Only Series Runners are eligible for end-of-season awards.
  • Participation Bonus Points
    • 🎯Runners registered for the full Full Moon Trail Series receive an automatic 1,000-point bonus.
  • Negative Split Bonus (Per Race)
    • A timing mat will be placed between 0.25 mile and 1 mile from the finish.
    • If your second segment is faster than your first (a “negative split”), you’ll receive an automatic 250 bonus points for that race.

Points Breakdown

  • 🥇 Highest Age-Graded Finisher – 300 Points
  • 🥈 2nd Highest – 299 Points
  • 🥉 3rd Highest – 298 Points
  • Points decrease by one point per place after that.
  • Every finisher earns points.

What Is Age Grading?

  • Age Grading levels the playing field by adjusting performances based on age and gender — similar to a handicap in golf or bowling.

How it works:

  • Your finish time is compared to the world record for your age and gender.
    • Scores are expressed as percentages:
      100% = World Record
      90% = World-Class
      80% = National Class
      70% = Regional Class
      60% = Local Class
Example: A 70-year-old and a 10-year-old can compete on the same scoring scale.

Important:

  • Trail races are much slower than road races, so Age-Grading percentages in trail events may differ from road race performances

Awards Ceremony

  • At the end of the series, the top 12 men and top 12 women with the highest cumulative points will be honored at the Awards Ceremony.
  • Because of Age Grading, winners often represent a wide range of ages.

Additional Notes

  • Scoring applies to live events only (no virtual results).
  • You do not need to complete all four races to earn points — but more races mean more chances to improve your ranking.
  • Virtual participants and individual race entrants are not eligible for the Awards Ceremony.
  • Series Scoring Results are updated on the Full Moon site within 48 hours of the last race.
