About this Race Series

The South Suburban Race Series consists of six races throughout the calendar year. Participants earn points for finishing position that go toward overall scoring. Each male and female who accumulates the most points will win prizes and be crowned race series Champion. Free to participate.

Race Series Awards:

Each race will provide its own unique set of prizes and awards for the top two racers in each age and gender category. In addition, we track the season-long progress of each racer in the series. At the end of the season, SSPRD will host an awards party where prizes are handed out to year-end series champions in each age category and the overall male and female champions. The overall champions will each take home an annual South Suburban recreation center pass good for one year. Overall male and female champions cannot win their age/gender category.

The tiebreaker for all places will be the best 5k time for each runner.

Age Categories for Male & Female

Under 10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Age category is based on age on race day throughout the year for individual races. The Race Series category winners will be grouped by their age at the conclusion of the last race (taking your accumulated points with you should you jump age groups).

Points

Within each age/gender category, points will be awarded based upon your finishing position in each race. Points for finishing position (place) will be awarded as follows:

1st overall by gender - 14
1st in age category by gender - 12
2nd in age category by gender - 11
3rd in age category by gender - 10
4th in age category by gender - 9
5th in age category by gender - 8
6th in age category by gender - 7
7th in age category by gender - 6
8th in age category by gender - 5
9th in age category by gender - 4
10th in age category by gender - 3
