2nd Annual Mountain Man Memorial March Golf Scramble

Join us for a day of golf with a purpose as we raise funds to honor our nation's fallen heroes and support the Gold Star Families they left behind.

The Mountain Man Memorial March (MMMM) was founded with a simple but powerful mission:

Honor Our Fallen. Support Their Gold Star Families.

The Mountain Man Memorial March began in 2008 as a tribute to 1LT Frank B. Walkup, IV, a 2005 University of Tennessee graduate and Army ROTC alumnus who was killed in action in Iraq in 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Following his death, fellow University of Tennessee ROTC Cadets wanted to honor Frank's sacrifice and support his family. Their idea became the first Mountain Man Memorial March.

That inaugural event brought together 40 ROTC Cadets from East Tennessee who completed a 26.2-mile march through the Smoky Mountains carrying 35-pound rucksacks. At the finish, the University of Tennessee Ranger Team presented 1LT Walkup's mother with his portrait and a Gold Star Flag.

What began as a tribute to one American hero has grown into a national tradition of remembrance.

Today, the Mountain Man Memorial March honors hundreds of fallen service members from every branch of the United States Armed Forces while welcoming Gold Star Families from across the country. Each April, runners, ruckers, volunteers, veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and community supporters gather in East Tennessee to ensure the sacrifices of our nation's heroes are never forgotten.

The Mountain Man Memorial March has become one of the largest gatherings of Gold Star Families on the East Coast.

Every dollar raised through the 2nd Annual Mountain Man Memorial March Golf Scramble directly supports Gold Star Families attending the 20th Annual Mountain Man Memorial March in April 2027.

100% of net proceeds help provide lodging for Gold Star Family members who travel from across the United States to attend this special weekend of remembrance and healing.

Last year, more than 40 Gold Star Family members joined us. With your support, we hope to welcome even more families in 2027 at $0 cost to them to attend a magnificent weekend in Gatlinburg, TN.
