WYFF 4 is celebrating 70 years in broadcasting this year. In honor of the milestone, the station is giving back to the communities it has served for decades with a ‘Year 4 Giving: Feed It Forward’ initiative focused on food insecurity.
In the third of four campaigns, WYFF 4 will hold a fundraiser to benefit the United Way of Anderson County’s Weekend SnackPack program on Wednesday, August 30. WYFF News 4’s Aaron Baker and Sydney Shadrix will report live from Second Harvest Food Bank where volunteers pack bags to help fill the weekend meal gap for more than 700 elementary school students in Anderson County. “We have been shining a light on the issue of food insecurity throughout the year, and nowhere is that more critical than with our children,” said WYFF 4 President and General Manager John Humphries. “The work being done through the Weekend SnackPack program to feed young students in Anderson County is so important, and I am glad we can use our platform to raise funds to support it.”
"No one ever wants to think of a child in our community going to bed at night hungry, but statistics say 1 in 6 children in Anderson County is at-risk for hunger,” says Carol Burdette, United Way of Anderson County CEO. “Please help us eliminate childhood hunger and make sure every child has food!"
Your support will help United Way of Anderson County feed over 700 children each weekend throughout the school year! Weekend SnackPack was created to provide weekend food supplements to students who are identified by their teachers, creating food security for them over the weekend. With the support of partners, donors, and volunteers, United Way of Anderson County works hard to fill the weekend meal gap for these kids, so they can return to school each Monday well-fed and ready to learn.
