The Arc's 5th Annual Community Pickleball Challenge

EVENT UPDATE: Due to the rainy forecast for tomorrow, The Arc's 5th Annual Community Pickleball Challenge will be moved to this SUNDAY, MAY 3rd. Spectators can expect games to take place between 8:30am-12:30pm. All participants have been notified via email.

Please see below for the schedule of play for Sunday. Note that you do not need to be present for the entire event, only for your specific categories, though we encourage spectators and would love to have you! 

Group 1: Men's Intermediate, Women's Intermediate

Group 2: Mixed Intermediate, Senior Men's

Start Play: 10:30am

 **IF you are playing in more than one category, please check times for each category and be sure to arrive at the earliest time.

Each team will receive a more specific schedule with court assignments when they check in.

What to bring:
 

• We encourage players and spectators to bring a lawn chair, sunscreen, and any other sun protection. Pop-up tents are welcome as well, though there is an adequate amount of tree coverage for spectators.
• Please bring your pickleball paddle.
• Please bring a water bottle to refill as needed.
• Please do not bring your own balls as these will be provided.
• Raffle tickets will be for sale and we have some amazing prizes including pickleball paddles from Gamma, 5-pack classes from OrangeTheory, and more! We will accept cash, checks, or credit card payments. 
   

Join us for the 5th annual Community Pickleball Challenge! This event supports the mission of The Arc of Greater Williamsburg. The Arc serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through local programs, events, and employment transportation opportunities. With your tax-deductible participation, this event will bring additional funding to expand and improve our programs to serve the 250+ local families who are a part of The Arc.

EVENT INFORMATION

All play will take place at Veteran's Park. All play will take place in teams of two. You MUST know the name of your partner to register, though you do not need to register at the same time. All registered participants have a guaranteed three games of play. The event will be a round robin format, and prizes will be awarded for the top two teams in each category. The event will also feature raffle drawings. Spectators are welcome to attend and watch this event.

The time for the day will be 8:30am to around 1pm on Saturday though you will receive YOUR specific start time based on your group and level via email prior to the event. You will not be required to be there for the entirety of the event aside from your specific time. 

PARTICIPANT INFORMATION

The cost to participate is $60 per person (for a total of $120 each team, see details on teams below) for anyone in adult 18+ category or $30 per person (for a total of $60 each team) for anyone in the 12-17 years Teen Bracket. Registration prior to April 21st includes a t-shirt in size of choice. Registration is a tax-deductible donation to support The Arc of Greater Williamsburg.

Participants in the adult bracket will choose a category at registration.  For those over 75, participation in the Senior category is OPTIONAL, and based on registrations, the Senior category may be playing out of the gender categories. You are able to participate in whichever category you choose best fits YOUR individual skill level. Additional information on skill levels follow. 

Participants in the teen bracket will only choose between Women's, Men's or Mixed, and will not be divided based on skill level. If you have questions, please contact Caroline Johnson at caroline.johnson@thearcgw.org or 757-229-3535.

TEAM INFORMATION

When registering, you will be prompted to either create or join a team. If you are the first team member to register, you will click "Create." Teams will be two people and should consist of either a team name or the pair's given names (eg "The Picklers" or "Sue and Kellie"). When the second team member registers, they will choose to join a team, find your team name, and join that team. If for some reason you are unable to do so or are having issues, please reach out to Caroline Johnson at caroline.johnson@thearcgw.org or 757-229-3535 and Caroline will be happy to connect each team member together on the backend.
