Dear Friends,
I've decided to Take the Lead for Mental Health, and I need your help. I'm joining thousands around the world to do a 5k run or walk on April 26th, 2020 to change the way the world treats mental health.
The John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation was founded by Victor and Lynne Brick in honor of Victor's oldest brother John, who suffered from schizophrenia his entire life and died of complications from the disease. The Foundation funds and promotes evidence-based research on how different forms of holistic treatments - such as exercise, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices - benefit mental health.
Did you know that in the U. S. approximately 1 in 5 adults, and 1 in 6 youth aged six to seventeen, experience a mental illness every year? Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among people age 10 - 34. And, other than pregnancy, mood disorders are the most common cause of hospitalization for all people in the U.S. under age 45. Nearly every person reading this either has themselves or has a loved one who has struggled with mental illness. And most are never offered any form of movement, nutrition, or mind-body approaches, even though evidence suggests these can make a huge difference.
Every dollar you help me raise for the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation will go to support scientific research and evidence-based programs for transforming our approach to preventing and treating mental illness. I hope you will contribute to this effort, and will invite your friends and family to contribute as well. Together, we can bring light into the lives of millions.
From Victor and Lynne: “We want to help people like my brother John. We want to save families from going through the heartache we experienced. We don’t think exercise is the only answer, but we think it is part of the answer. Through evidence-based research it is our hope to find out what part movement, nutrition, and mind-body practices can play in the treatment of mental illness, and which forms work best for different mental health issues.”
Join me in making a contribution!
Your Friend,
Ben "Benergy" Einolf
