Join me in support for accessible, safe, and healthy communities throughout MA!

While attending a conference in Boston in 2016, I had the pleasure of experiencing my first-ever walk audit with WalkMassachusetts (f/k/a WalkBoston). On this audit led by former Executive Diretor, Wendy Landman, and current Co-Executive Director, Brendan Kearney, we trekked and analyzed the walkability of some streets in the Back Bay area of Boston. Walkability involves many factors such as signal timing, pedestrian safety at intersections, and sidewalk accesibility for all. Results of the walk audit shed light on the challenges of (urban) infrastructure, the built environment, and developing safe routes for active transportation especially walking.

From my personal experiences and knowledge of WalkMassachusetts’s efforts to help our communities be safer for all ages, I undoubtedly support their work towards a more accessible, walkable, and healther Commonwealth.

It is my goal to raise funds to support WalkMassachusetts and their work that directly impacts our communities near and far across the state. You can donate and/or join my team, Berkshire Pioneers, in the "Beat the Bay State" month-long fundraiser and virtual competition to walk 900 miles in support of WalkMassachusetts and their efforts. The virtual walking competition starts on November 1st.

With your help, we can spark further changes for healthier, safer, and walkable communities! Lace up your walking shoes and let’s step forward together!

With gratitude,
Michelle Messana

"Beat the Bay State" is a fundraiser for WalkMassachusetts (formerly WalkBoston), working to make walking safer and easier in Massachusetts to encourage better health, a cleaner environment and more vibrant communities. All monetary contributions, excluding the race registration fee, go toward WalkMassachusetts's mission to help communities across the state become more walkable places. Your support is greatly appreciated!
