Description
The University of Denver's Seventh Annual Crimson Classic is a fun 5k Run/Walk held during Homecoming. The focus of the Crimson Classic is to celebrate wellness and to bring together our community.

In addition to the race, please join us for a full day of wellness activities, lawn games, music, and booths on Carnegie Green. We encourage departments or groups to show your team spirit by dressing up in your favorite DU gear or themed outfits! If you'd like to enter the costume contest, please arrive to Carnegie Green around 2pm to check in. At 2:30pm, winners will be announced and will receive their departmental/group prize. Must be present to win.
This is a free event! The race begins at 3pm on Carnegie Green. All participants will receive a 7th Annual Crimson Classic t-shirt for free.
EARLY T-SHIRT AND BIB PICK-UP
For those pre-registered, t-shirts and bibs will be available for pick-up from 11:00am - 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 and Thursday, October 17, 2019 on Carnegie Green. You may also sign up for the race onsite as well.
Regional employees and eligible spouses are encouraged to participate in the Crimson Classic 5k Run and Walk by engaging in any physical activity of their choice on that day. Participation qualifies for 500 wellmetrics points. Please click on the Crimson Classic tile in the Wellmetrics Portal to claim your points. If you would like to receive this year’s commemorative Crimson Classic T-shirt, please email well@du.edu with your size (Small – XXXL in unisex sizes) and your mailing address.
Timeline for Crimson Classic Day - Friday, October 18, 2019
8:00am – 9:00am Yoga and Meditation with Kara Traikoff on Carnegie Green *Please bring your yoga mat.
Join Kara from 8-9am for a practice in mindful movement. Start your day with a gentle vinyasa flow class focusing on the connection of movement to breath and body awareness. Beginners and experienced yoga practitioners are welcome. The class will end with a guided, visualization meditation.
9:00am - 10:00am Breakfast, provided by Sodexo on Carnegie Green
9:00am Zumba with Katia Miller on Carnegie Green
This Latin class fuses hypnotic rhythms and easy-to-follow choreography to create an exciting dance cardio class. With combinations of international dance steps, Zumba will allow you to torch calories while having fun!
10:00am - 11:00am Tai Chi with Jean Gan with KIHA on Carnegie Green
The instructor is Jean Gan, who teaches in communities throughout Metro Denver. Jean is a physical therapist who has taught Tai Chi for the past seven years. Beginners will find a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a class that can adapt to everyone’s physical abilities. More advanced students will find an emphasis on the bedrock 10 Tai Chi principles, such as circular motion and coordinating the upper and lower body, via a practical down-to-earth style.
11:00am – 12:00pm Nutrition Consulting with Havilande Lodge, Anderson Academic Commons Room 290
Join Havilande Lodge, a certified holistic nutrition consultant, for a conversation about a holistic approach to health and wellness. Root and Remedy's goal is to coach and educate clients about the tools to achieve and sustain exceptional health through foundational concepts. Our product is individually catered to identify the root cause of underlying health issues and allows the client to exercise a greater level of awareness.
1:00pm - 2:00pm Self Defense Class with Campus Safety on Carnegie Green
The Division of Campus Safety now offers free, 90 minute basic self defense classes for students, staff and faculty of all genders. These courses go over basic self-defense and risk-avoidance techniques. This class is perfect for community members who cannot dedicate 15 hours to a more intense class. We ask that if you are dressing up for the Themed Dress-Up Contest, that you arrive on Carnegie Green from 2pm - 2:30pm to check in.
2:00pm - 2:30pm Themed Dress-up Contest Winners Announced - Will Receive Department/Group Prize

3pm - 4:30pm Mingling, Music, Booths, Games Pre and Post Run
Bag check - There will be a bag check for your items at the race. Please note, DU is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please do not leave valuables.
Focus on fun and achieving your personal best time!
DU Faculty and Staff that participate in the Wellmetrics Portal will receive 500 points for completing the run/walk, volunteering, or tabling. You will be able to award your own points this year on the portal.
The afternoons in Denver can reach warm temperatures, please be sure to hydrate prior, during, and after the event. Water stations will be located at the Start/Finish line and along the course.
Distance: 5K = Two (2) laps around the course above. Those interested in a more casual experience may complete only one (1) lap, which would equate to less than a 5K.
Event Exclusions
Please limit the use of headphones at the race - try using only one earbud or turning the volume to low.
Strollers will be allowed, but please ensure to start in the back after all other runners and walkers. Pets are not allowed on course. Service animals are allowed.
Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
