Charlottesville Ten Miler

The Charlottesville Ten Miler, fourth race in RaceFest series, is sponsored by the Charlottesville Track Club. 

Why Foxfield?  If there's anything the past year has taught is, it's to be flexible and ready to adapt.  The pandemic has been all about adjusting our expectations and looking for silver linings wherever we can.  So with that in mind, we wanted to briefly outline our thought process in holding this year's race at Foxfield...

• First and foremost, the safety of our participants and volunteers was paramount.  So in order to hold a physical race (and not just go 100% virtual), we needed to find a place where we could run off dozens of waves over the course of several hours.  
• Doing so on the road is essentially impossible to do safely due to the necessity of having to close the road.  Since the event is taking place over 5+ hours on each of two separate days, the cost of doing so would be astronomical.  Not to mention the inconvenience that it would place on our local residents trying to drive on that road.
• Keeping the above in mind, the logical and easy conclusion was to host the race at Foxfield.  We've already held three races (Women's Four Miler, Men's Four Miler, New Year's Day 5K) at the same venue using extremely similar logistics and have had nothing but great experiences each time.  It is an absolutely beautiful venue, and it's easy to see how it won the rights to host the NCAA Cross Country Championships back in 1987 as it is a premiere, world class cross country facility. 
• We can completely relate to the hesitations that people have (on grass, hilly, not the normal famous 10 Miler course, etc), BUT after having the three events out there recently and after running and walking the course ourselves several times, we know people are going to love the experience.  No, you won't be able to compare your Ten Miler time to past years, but you're still racing against the clock, pushing yourself to see what your body can produce on a given day, and seeing how you stack up against the rest of the field...all the while enjoying the unique scenery and the beautiful mountain views.  And at the end of the day, isn't that what it's all about anyways?
• Just like everyone else out there, we so badly want to return to "normal" and enjoy experiences like racing the 10 Miler on its normal course...but we're just not there yet. So as we said earlier, it's time to adapt, be flexible, and find those silver linings.  Plus, this will make the 2022 edition back on its normal home that much more enjoyable!

Race Details

• Race registration is $50 for Foxfield course and $40 for virtual. Registration includes a technical t-shirt.
• We ask everyone to be off the Foxfield property by 11:15 on Saturday and 11:45 on Sunday so please keep that in mind when signing up for a time slot. We will do our best to keep the finish line open as long as we know runners are on the course, and will not remove anyone from the course.
• The race is the fourth event in our 2021 RACEFEST series, and all points earned at the Ten Miler will count in your overall total. 5 points will be awarded each time you complete an event, and you may accumulate more points based on your age group finish (3 points for 1st in your age group, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd). Top 3 overall placers will also be awarded points. There are 8 races in the series, starting with the NYD5K. Visit cvilletrackclub.org to sign up.
• Masks are required at all times with the exception of when you're actually out running the course. All volunteers will be masked as well.
• Each Foxfield time slot will be limited to 10 openings due to Virginia state and Albemarle County COVID-19 safety guidelines. Note that each slot will NOT start together as one single wave. It will be a rolling start so as to keep everyone as physically distanced and safe as possible. You just have to begin your race within 5 minutes of your starting time.
• The Foxfield Races will be chip timed.

• THERE ARE NO REFUNDS OR DEFERRALS. NO strollers or dogs will be allowed on the race course.

• Can I switch from the Anywhere Virtual event to the Ten Miler event (or Ten Miler to Virtual)?

• Due to the pandemic protocols, only registered participants are permitted. Sorry, no spectators are allowed.
• Your race number must be pinned (in all four corners) to the outside layer of your front, so as to properly trigger your chip. If you have multiple members of your family running, please make sure that you each wear the correct number (your names are on the back of each number) 
• You MUST wear a mask from the time you get out of your vehicle, including on your warmup,  until you cross the starting line. You may take your mask off while running the course but as soon as you cross the finish line, we ask that you immediately wear your mask again. In other words, masks must be worn at ALL times except while racing out on the 10 Miler course. This is for the safety of our medical team, our volunteers and for you, our guests. Thanks!
• We are thrilled to have chip timing for this year’s event, thanks to our friends at Queen City Timing, so we will have overall and age group results. We will not post the results until the last finisher has completed the event. Age groups are as follows: 10 & younger, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+. There will also be prizes awarded to the top teams.   
• We will have portajohns at the race site for your convenience. 
• Dr. Wilder, our wonderful longtime Race Medical Director, will be on hand, along with his UVA Runner’s Clinic crew. We are so grateful for their ongoing volunteer help. We also appreciate the help of our CTC volunteers, who will be helping to safely guide you throughout your race experience.
