Dear Family and Friends,
On Sunday, October 19, I will be running the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Marathon here in Columbus. I am running with a heart full of gratitude for the care our family has received over the years, and especially in honor and celebration of Hannah, a remarkable young woman from our congregation whose story continues to inspire so many.
Earlier this year, Hannah began experiencing knee pain during her youth running season. What seemed like a routine sports injury turned out to be something far more serious: an osteosarcoma tumor near her knee and tibia. From that moment on, Hannah and her family entered a journey no one ever expects. Yet they were not alone. The team at Nationwide Children’s surrounded them with world-class care, compassion, and unwavering support.
After beginning chemotherapy, Hannah underwent a complex surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct her leg. Today, she continues physical therapy and follow-up care, as she lives out her beautiful mantra: “Never lose your sparkle!” Through it all, she has shown resilience, joy, and a grace beyond her years, and she reminds me why this cause matters so deeply.
I am proud to be running as part of the Children’s Champions program to raise funds for the life-saving pediatric research and care that Nationwide Children’s provides not only here in Columbus, but to families across all 50 states and more than 60 countries.
My personal fundraising goal is $5,000, and I would be so grateful for your support. Every dollar makes a difference for children like Hannah, our daughters, and so many others whose lives are changed by the extraordinary work of this hospital.
Thank you for considering a gift of any amount. Together, we can help ensure that more children have the chance to heal, to grow, and, like Hannah, to keep sparkling.
With gratitude, David Hoffman
