Empire Ranch Trail Run

January 24, 2026
Sonoita, AZ 85637 US

Event Description

January 23 Update:  The race is scheduled to take place rain or shine.  Current weather conditions show overnight rain, then light rain on race morning, then heavier rain on race afternoon.

Key Items

  • Registration is still open online via this RunSignup page and in person on race morning at the race site at Empire Ranch from 8:30-9:15 am.

  • Driving directions to the Empire Ranch can be found here. Please drive safely and be sure to take the weather conditions into account on the roadways.

  • Click here for the final pre-race email to all early registrants.

  • A note on the courses: As indicated in the pre-race email, we marked the routes with stick-pin flags and we expect to have volunteers at all key intersections.  It is a trail race so please be mindful of your footing and where you are on the course.

  • The 10k measured about 6.4 miles when we marked the course on Jan 22nd, while the 5k should indeed be right 3.1 miles.

  • We saw cattle and herd of beautiful pronghorn on the route, so please keep an eye out for wildlife!

  • The Family Mile is a bit short and we may have to change the route depending on the level of water in the Heritage Trail.

  • The event cancellation policy is published here.  There are no refunds or deferrals at this point.

  • You will probably want to bring rain gear and wear layers and trail shoes in case it's slippery. And don't forget to bring a towel, a change of clothes, some extra socks, and a dry pair of shoes for after the race. Parking will be in the dirt lot adjacent to the race site, so you can keep all your possessions dry inside your car, then dry off and come hang out.

January 16 Update: check out the national press release announcing the Empire Ranch Trail Run.

January 14 Update: Please click here for the most recent pre-race email that we sent to the early registrants on January 14th, with details on the schedule, directions, the routes, awards, and more.

January 6 Update: We've sold out of our sublimated shirts, so all registrations after January 6 will receive a white short sleeve cotton shirt with the unique race artwork.

Save the date for this exciting new run/walk event!  The Empire Ranch Trail Run will include a 10k Trail Run, a 5k Trail Run/Walk, and a 1 mile family-friendly trail walk/run.
