Hello Friends & Family!
I'm incredibly excited to announce my selection into the Chicago River Swim, a charitable event hosted by the Chicagoland non-profit A Long Swim.
I'm one of 500 lucky individuals who will soon swim among the city's famous skyscrapers and under its iconic bridges!
Swimming has been a lifelong anchor for me. I was slated to walk-on to the swim team in college but a hand injury ended my official career, stepped away for decades, and found my way back to the water in my late 40s. Last year, at 49, I finished second in the non-wetsuit division. and I'm going back this year to improve my time.
Prior to participating on Sunday, September 20, 2026, I've committed to fundraise on behalf of the event's two beneficiaries: supporting collaborative ALS research and providing swim lessons for Chicago's underprivileged youth. Both causes hit close to home — one fights a disease that takes people far too soon, and the other gives kids access to a sport that has given me so much.
I'd be honored if you could make a contribution, of any amount, toward my fundraising goal. Even $25 goes a long way. Further, if you are as inspired as I am, please share this with your network and plan to witness me conquer the Chicago River on Sunday morning, September 20.
With gratitude and good vibes,
Ryan
