The pediatric heart program was begun in the late 1980s when Dr Akl arrived. It has since continued to expand and reach further into the area providing state of the art heart care to all children with congenital or acquired heart disease.

The StarKid 5K was started as a fundraiser for the Inova Children's Hospital Heart team. Recently we opened the fundraiser to support the initiatives of the entire pediatric hospital at LJ Murphy Children's Hospital. This children's hospital cares for all children - no matter one's ability to pay. We have many specialty services covered within Pediatrics (inovachildrens.org/our-services).

As members of the heart center we are Heart Heroes taking care of our child and young adult heroes with heart disease.
