As some of you know, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2013. I was fortunate that my doctor ask me if I was having any issues. I had already said no when something (God) made me change my response. I thought I was doing all the right stuff by having my yearly exam. Little did I know the Pap only tests for cervical cancer as there are not tests for any other GYN cancers. After surgery, I found I was in stage 3 out of 4 despite the fact that my Pap smear came back noting no issues.
I became involved with the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation to help promote research, awareness/education and support. I would love for one day to have tests for all GYN cancers. If not in my lifetime, at least in my daughter’s.
Many people are not as fortunate as I was. My health insurance took care of my medical bills and I was able to continue working. A lot of people have a completely different experience, they are unable to work, struggle to pay bills and even have issues with transportation to and from the doctor.

- educated tens of thousands of Alabamians on GYN cancer prevention, signs & symptoms, and risk factors
- granted more than $750,000 for ovarian cancer early detection research
