Between August 1st and September 30th, I will be doing my own Crossing to support LifeFlight of Maine, a challenge that will symbolize the difficulties of providing lifesaving emergency medical care to Maine's many island and rural communities.
Earlier this year on March, 6th 2024, at only 3 days old we were preparing to leave the hospital and bring our newborn baby girl home when plans quickly changed. Our daughter started having several episodes in which she stopped breathing. Those next moments became a blur as we had to shift from leaving the hospital, to praying our baby girl would take her next breath. After being rushed back to the nursery to receive necessary medical attention the team quickly realized she needed specialized care they could not provide. They sprang into action and life flight arrived soon after where she was then transported to Bangor to receive the care she needed from the amazing NICU team. After 3 days in the NICU we were cleared to bring our baby girl home. I will forever be grateful for Life Flight and the amazing team who got our baby girl the medical attention she needed as soon as possible. I don’t know what we would have done without them. They are our walking angels. As soon as I heard about this fundraiser, I signed up immediately. Any way we can help give back to this amazing organization who helped our family and continue to help many others receive the medical attention they need as soon as possible 🙏🏻
LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit organization and the state’s only emergency medical helicopter service. With three helicopters, an airplane and ground ambulances, LifeFlight brings ICU-level care directly to the patient. As Maine’s only air ambulance service, LifeFlight has served more than 38,000 patients, one life at a time, from every community and hospital in the state.
LifeFlight plays a critical role in the “chain of survival” by connecting people to the care they need. People who live in Maine and people who visit Maine—including me—depend on LifeFlight to be there for them. I’m comforted to know that they’ll be there for me, and for my friends and family, should the unthinkable happen.
