I'm proud to walk for change this May 5th with Family Promise of Essex County! Every day I am inspired by the work being done at FPE. The families we serve are often facing the trauma of homelessness without any support systems. FPE’s service delivery prioritizes treating them with dignity and respect as we work to ensure that every family in Essex County has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.
The stress of homelessness can amplify other trauma-related difficulties and has a damaging impact on physical and mental wellness. Children experiencing homelessness become ill twice as much as other children and are twice as likely to repeat a grade in school. Half of school-age children living through homelessness experience anxiety, depression, or withdrawal, and by the time they are eight years old, one in three children cycling through the crisis of homelessness is diagnosed with a major mental illness.
In 2023, FPE served more than 930 Essex County residents through all of our programs, including homelessness prevention and diversion, housing stabilization, and emergency shelter services. FPE received more than 400 requests for services per month in 2023, so we know there is more work for us to do. With your support, we can reach and serve more children and families this year than ever before.
These children and families are your neighbors and mine, and together we can help provide them with the support and relief they need to move towards a healthier future.
