Life for Pets, Pets for Life.
I am participating in the PetPromise Rescue Run to raise funds to support PetPromise, an all-volunteer, central Ohio nonprofit animal welfare organization.
PetPromise supports efforts to change the future for homeless pets through education, rescue, sterilization, and adoption.
In 2013, I lost my first dog, Mazey, the I had adopted as an adult. She was 15 and my other dog, Lola, was only 12 at the time and quite spry. They weren't best friends. They never played together. I hadnt anticipated her being so depressed when Mazey passed away. I was wildly wrong.

I wasn't ready for another dog, but knew i had to get there quickly, so i started volunteering as a photographer for dogs who needed to be adopted. I had never volunteered before and was ready to dive in. Dawn Marsh, then foster and now dog director, welcomed me with open arms and brought me all kinds of dogs from the program. This started my long career of helping 100's of dogs and cats getting into new homes with better photographs for adoption sites. I love bring animals into my studio and gettign to know each one, and feeling like part of their journey, and being able to help tell the story that helps them find just the right home.

Beatrice, PetPromise Alumni
Queen of the Lucky Dog pack

Beatrice and her brother were brought into the studio one day, and i called my husband and said you should come meet puppies today. The siblings were cute, and silly, and while i was photographing her brother, Beatrice did the only thing she could and made my husband fall in love with her instantly, we put in papers to adopt her that day.
Lola loved her new litter sister, and finally had a best friend, till her dying day.
Today, Beatrice is the Queen of our home, she rules with an iron fist over her 2 housemates, and her two best boyfriends, and at 11 years old, she chases the frisbee daily.

The accidental failure.

Our kid (L) had to do a capstone project for high school graduation, and since hadnt fostered any dogs in quite a long time, she begged to do this for her capstone. Since PetPromise gets lots of puppies and they are usually adopted pretty fast, I conceded to this, knowing that a puppy would be here and gone within a matter of weeks. We set very clear plans with her about the rules of fostering and that we would NOT be adopting the dog. We talked about how home checks are done, and and applications are processed. We would help her through these processes, but ultimately it would be her job to get the foster a new home.
Transport day came, and we had agreed to a dog that was thought to be some sort of beagle about 10weeks old. That meant two-four weeks till neuter and available to go to his new home. Perfect! Easy age to get dogs adopted swiftly, which is what we want so the next dogs can be pulled from wherever to find homes!
When (L) and I pulled up to pick up the puppy, they handed us this TINY TINY little boy. He was SOOO tiny.. i thought maybe he was a Chihuahua not a beagle. So when the first vet visit came, they agreed with me, he was NOT 10 weeks old, and they would be shocked if he was 5weeks old! This meant he was gonna be here a while till he could get his weight up and safe for neutering. (L) took care of him and fell in love, and so did my husband. I was the last to the game. I had no intentions on having a third dog. We suprised (L) by having her last application to review be the one for our house. She started crying when she realized what was happening and INSTANTLY ran over and jumped in her arms to make sure she was ok. We knew we made a right choice.

Betty
The Jester

Betty is our middle child and full of DERP and ANXIETY. Shes a wonderful dog who just wants to run with you. She is perfect in the studio, and when she warms up to you, she is your best friend for life, sometimes that can take multiple years, some people are instantly best friends. There's no rhyme or reason. She loves to play and wrestle and snuggle as long as you dont touch her.
Lucky Dog Pack Friends
The Brown Dog Squad

I would be remiss if i didn't mention the two other important dogs in our lives, Fergus and Henry. They live with one of my best friends and they are the best of pals. They have sleepovers and playdates and celebrate birthdays together. They even have thier own magical photoshoots together.
Why do We do this?
Because pets.
The amount of animals who are unhoused and unloved through no fault of thier own other is something that I can help. They need our help to find a safe spot to land, and be loved unconditionally. I ask that you help PetPromise to raise the funds that help us bring more pets into safe locations and find them homes for forever.
If you can donate , it would help us with our Spay Neuter Programs, medical care, food, flea and tick meds, and microchipping, just to name a few things.
