Dear Friends, Every year, thousands of women are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Unfortunately, due to the difficulty in detecting ovarian cancer, it is often found after the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, making it very difficult to treat and eradicate. The 5 year survival rate of all women diagnosed with ovarian cancer is less than 50% and can fall to 30% for those presenting with late-stage disease. What is more insidious, is that after surgery and chemotherapy (the standard of care for most gynecological cancers), many women have a recurrence with a more aggressive, platinum resistant cancer that is virtually impossible to treat. As part of a dynamic research laboratory, I am working very hard to find key treatment targets and compounds to add to the standard regimen.
