Race Description
We are excited to host our 6th Annual Miles for Mentorship event to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region’s mission to ignite the promise and power of youth! Miles for Mentorship is an outdoor, walk or run 5K. This year the event will be held at Hawk Island starting and ending at the Red Tail Shelter. Proceeds to this event help support the agency’s mission to create 1-to-1 mentoring relationships so that all youth achieve their full potential!
Back again! children 12 years of age and under are invited to participate in our Spooky Sprint Kids Run! Halloween costumes are encouraged, and each participant will receive a pumpkin to paint and finisher medal at the finish line. The Spooky Sprint is free of charge!
The race will be professionally chip timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be posted during the race and online at the results tab, top of the page.
This 5k race is an out and back course that starts and ends at the Red Tail Shelter. The full race course can be found here.

Unfortunately not. For the safety of participants and the dogs, we ask that you not bring your dog unless it is a service animal.
Yes, you may wear headphones during the race. We just ask that you can still hear and are aware of your surroundings.
Yes, they sure can! Our race staff/volunteers will just ask for first and last name of each participant.
Yes! For everyone's safety we ask that baby joggers/strollers line up towards the back of the starting area. This helps prevent congestion and allows runners to get off to a clean start.
Yes, participants may register the day of the race. Day of registration may only be completed online.
Yes! Tell the park staff that you are participating in the 5k and they will direct you to the parking lot closest to the race start/finish line.
No, this event will happen rain or shine.
Yes! Every finisher will receive a race medal. Shirts will be gauranteed for runners why register by September. Extra shirts will be ordered and available on a first come first serve basis for late registrations.
Yes! There is a water station located at the halfway point.
Yes, there are restrooms located at the start/finish line. There will not be any porta-potties on the actual course.
No, there will not be an official awards ceremony following the race.
