Mary Grace welcomes you to her 2025 MG Heart Warrior Hospital Hill page!
First off, a massive thank you to all who’ve supported MG and our family over the past 3 years as we’ve navigated her heart journey with Tetralogy of Fallot.
Thanks for the prayers, texts, meals, calls, hugs, donations, cheers on race day and unconditional love you’ve shown. It’s not gone unnoticed and we’ll value that support forever.
Mary Grace had open heart surgery in the summer of 2023 at 6 months old to repair her pulmonary valve along with three other fixes to her special heart from a truly incredible surgeon and care team.
Fast forward through all the cardiology appointments, heart echos, EKG stickers…and lots of suckers, shiny distractions and some Bluey on the iPad.
Below are some highlights:
- She has graduated through each milestone her special cardiologist (shout out to Dr. Fick and his team) has put in front of her: Monthly, every 3 months, every 6 months. This past November she was able to graduate to annual check-ups.
- The echocardiogram and EKG appointments still bring that nervous feeling to Ashley and I when we walk into the Cardiology clinic at CMH, but each time Dr. Fick puts us at ease that our little Mary Grace is progressing right along and she can do anything any other rambunctious toddler should be doing.
- When we ask “where’s your scar?” she proudly points to it as a badge of honor. She is strong, resilient and independent. She no doubt will be able to conquer anything life throws at her. And she inspires us daily to stand tall and cherish every moment we’re given on this earth.
As we get ready to lace it up to take on Hospital Hill on Saturday May 31st we are reminded coming up the road and seeing Children’s Mercy standing tall across the city that it’s a beacon of hope for every parent and child that has to walk through those doors. It’s the incredibly talented people inside that make it the most special place to take care of our most cherished gift…our children.
This is a special time of year for our family and as we support MG and Children’s Mercy, please remember the heart babies before, those in heaven and those that will follow that need the continued support to drive pediatric cardiology forward.
