MIAKONDA • LAND OF THE CRESCENT MOON

Miakonda, the 6th oldest BSA camp in the United States welcomes you to the annual Miakonda Trail Ultra — a 24-hour race presented by Run Toledo and Dave's Running in Northwest Ohio.

FIELDS ARE LIMITED

One price. No increases...but limited fields, so signup early and secure your spot in what is going to be the regions premier Labor Day weekend Trail Ultra event.

You’ll have exclusive access to this private, wooded and scenic location to run 50K, 50 miles, 100K, or 100 miles+ over 24 hours as your benchmark race on this rolling trail. Choose the early Saturday Crescent Moon 15K to get a taste for the hidden gem of a course. Some participants choose to run individually over 24 hours and as the member of a team — you just have to signup for both separately. Tent Camping is available, or rent one of Miakonda’s thirteen cabins (contact Erie Shores Council directly to reserve a cabin).

THE SETTING

Camp Miakonda at the DeVilbiss Scout Reservation is a 160 acre resident-type facility and is the 6th oldest Boy Scout camp in the United States. Thirteen rustic cabins are available for you to rent on race day, and a large parade field and ancillary areas are available to setup camp and personal aid stations. Four Adirondack sites (3-sided buildings), tent camping sites, a pool, lake (with fishing), chapel, indoor dining hall (with food service operation), Trading Post, Historical Museum, marked historical trail, and a Frontier Fort are all on-premises and accessible along the course. 

CABIN RENTALS

If you’d like your own (or team) cabin, as opposed to a campsite included with registration, please contact Erie Shores Council directly to reserve your cabin-of-choice while they remain available.

Rentals are available for Friday night and Saturday night

APPAREL & SWAG

Individual ultra registrants receive a Event Specific, Custom Backpack (while supplies last), while team relay and 15K runners will receive the high-quality tech shirt. All runners also receive an insulated Polar water bottle.

COURSE

  • You will be running a 2.35 mile per lap loop.
  • Trail width is between 4 and 6 feet.
  • 2-way traffic will be separated by cones/rope/tape/fencing at various points on the course. Stay to the right at all time in these zones.
  • Trail is clean, but not improved or groomed. There are exposed roots and rocks, a variety of surfaces, and uneven terrain on the trails to be aware of.
  • The course will be defined by survey tape, rope, and glow sticks (illuminated at night).
  • No bikes allowed on the course, except for race staff and emergency personnel.
  • Plan on bringing some sort of insect/mosquito repellant.

LIGHTING

  • Course is not illuminated and will be dark overnight.  (glow sticks lining path)
  • Headlamps or other personal lighting will be required for everyone on the course from ½ hour before sunset to ½ hour after sunrise (approximately 07:30pm to 07:30am).
  • Other illumination is highly recommended, but not required.  

RESTROOMS

  • Multiple Restroom Facilities are located throughout camp and are available for use during the race.  

CAMPING, CABINS & RVs

  • All vehicles;  including car camping and RVs are to be parked in the main parking lot.
  • Camping area (Parade Field) is approximately 200 yards from the parking lot.
  • There is no vehicle access beyond the parking lot camp.
  • Tents, feed stations, and campsites can be located anywhere in the parade field.
  • RV boondock — there are no hookups.
  • Cabin check in will be managed by Boy Scout personnel at packet pickup, Saturday morning.
  • Cabins are rustic, but will have bunk beds, electricity, and some have attached bathrooms.
  • Before departure on Sunday, please check your cabin to make sure nothing is left and that they’re clean — floor swept, lights off, and trash disposed of.

HYDRATION & NUTRITION

  • Meals will be served out of Ford Center in the center of camp and accessible from the course.  Final cookout will be in the Parade Field.
  • Meals will be served inside at 1:00pm, 8:00pm, 3:00am and 8-11am.
  • Bib is required for participant to receive meals.
  • The grab-n-go area will operate outside the Ford Center on the route.
  • Grab-n-go will open 11:00am, Saturday.
  • Family, crew and spectators can purchase meal tickets for the weekend on on the registration page, or in person at the event.
  • Several water access points will be on the course to fill bottles or bladders, in addition to the grab-n-go area.
  • Crew members must purchase meal ticket/s to access meals.

STARTING & STOPPING

  • All runners need to wear their bib and ankle chip at all times when on the course.
  • You may stop at any point on the course to eat, sleep, use a restroom, or other related reason.
  • You may NOT travel in reverse on the course.
  • If you are leaving the course for an extended period of time, greater than 90 minutes, notify the scorers/operations HQ so we know you're not lost on the course.
  • Only full laps will count. Distance will be determined by the last full lap completed before 10:00am.

RESULTS & AWARDS

  • All participants will receive a custom finisher medal.
  • Four milestone distances will be recognized:  50K, 50 Mile, 100K, 100 Mile.
  • Runners will be recognized with an award for the greatest milestone achieved.
  • Overall award for the individual covering the greatest distance in 24 hours, male and female.
  • Overall award for fastest 100K event participant time.
  • Overall awards for the team covering greatest distance.

PACING

Pacing is not allowed. Pacing is defined as having another person set a pace to assist a registered athlete in accomplishing a desired result.


*CREW

  • Crew are allowed and encouraged.
  • Crew may only join runners on the course after 2:00pm, 4 hours into the event.
  • Crew may run with an athlete for any time, but must run at the runner's pace, and cannot mule (carry food, water or gear) for the runner.  
  • Crew members may get items at the Grab-n-Go table while running, but must purchase full meals (guest tickets to eat meals).
  • Leading a runner is not allowed — this is considered pacing. Be sure that your runner is leading you at all times.
  • Reported violations will be reviewed by race staff. Any penalties for violations will be assessed and communicated to the involved runner/s at the time of an official determination.

RELAY

  • Relay exchanges can only occur in the start line/race headquarters area near timing tent. Runner A completes lap, passes ankle chip onto runner B, who then begins their shift.  
  • Shift duration and runner order is decided on by each team individually and can be adjusted/changed at any time.

LOCATED WITHIN THIS PRIVATE CAMP

Bring your off-road running shoes, as the Miakonda course is trail-rated, with a small amount on a wide, smooth, paved path around camp, operations and dining/cabin facilities. Visualize the route before your arrive — watch the course video to see it first-hand, from the runner's perspective.

REGISTRATION POLICY

We know unexpected things happen that may change your ability to attend a race, so we make it easy for registered participants to manage their entry with multiple options. Your chosen option must be initiated and approved at least 14 days prior to race day of the event for which you are registered.

  1. Transfer your existing entry to any qualifying Run Toledo event in the same calendar year. (Contact us directly to support this process.)

  2. Defer your new entry to the same event in the following calendar year. (Contact us directly to support this process.)

  3. Recoup your entry fee by transferring your race bib to another person who hasn’t yet signed up. The process is easily managed through your personal runsignup.com/profile online. Learn how: Video Tutorial

Refund Policy — Should an in-person event be cancelled at least 14 days prior to the event date, registrants may request a refund of 75% of their entry fee.
