We're partnering with Feeding America!
Joining the Virtual Walk is a way of saying, “Health and wellness matter to me.” Now you can make that possible for someone else this fall.
The inflation we’ve all seen at the grocery store is hitting every community, but households with kids and seniors face hunger at higher rates than others. People of color and those who live in rural areas are also facing particularly impossible choices between buying food and paying for other needs like medicine or electricity. In fact, nearly half of Feeding America’s food banks have seen an increase in the number of people served in recent months.
“Food insecurity may be long term or temporary, but the resulting health impacts can endure—leading to, or exacerbating, health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure,” says Casey Marsh, Chief Development Officer at Feeding America.
When you donate, you are supporting a nationwide network of 200 food banks, 21 state associations, and 60,000 partner food pantries and meal programs, Marsh explains. “Feeding America turns $1 into at least 10 meals by working with manufacturers and retailers to donate food that would otherwise go to waste.” Plus, they’re focused on nutrition: Last year, the Feeding America network secured more than 2.2 billion pounds of fruits and vegetables for families facing hunger and 71% of food distributed by Feeding America are classified as promoting good health.
