The health and safety of supporters of the Chief's Champions 5K is our first priority. In accordance with the current guidance from the CDC and the Ohio Department of Health, JW Strong and Chief's Champions want to do our part in limiting the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, this means we will be canceling this year's 5K and 1-mile event. If you made a donation but did not register for the event, rest assured your money will go directly toward helping find new treatments for brain cancer through the OhioHealth Research Institute.
If you registered for the race, we would be thrilled to donate 100% of your registration fee to the OhioHealth Research Institute. But, we also understand if you would prefer to have your registration fee refunded. We ask that you make your decision by May 2, 2020. Please note, while a t-shirt was originally included in your registration fee, we will not be able to offer a t-shirt to you this year. While we have closed registration and t-shirt orders, we will be leaving donation options open through May 2, 2020. If you would like to donate additional funds to our cause, please visit https://runsignup.com/chiefschampions5k/donate.
If you select the refund option: we appreciate your patience. All refunds will be processed in bulk on or about May 5, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact our event management partner Columbus Running Company at firstname.lastname@example.org
We appreciate your support and are devastated we are unable to give you a great event this year. Please mark your calendars for May 1, 2021, as Chief's Champions will be back with some exciting additions to our traditional 5K and 1-mile events.
The Chief's Champions 5k race/fun run will take place on May 2, 2020 at General Rosecrans Elementary in Sunbury, Ohio. In 2017, Jeff Wilson, Chief of BST&G Fire Department was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumor. The local community rallied together, and the first Chief's Champions 5k was held to raise money to support his fight against the disease. Sadly, Jeff lost his battle in June 2018, but the Chief's Champions 5k continues to be held in his memory, and with a new mission--to help find a cure. Funds raised will be given to OhioHealth Research Institute to support clinical trials that focus on brain tumors and treatment. All donations are also tax deductible. Along with the 5K race, local fire departments will have fire trucks and an obstacle course for children. Food trucks will also be serving up pre and post race snacks.
Save time in line on race day, stop by BST&G Fire Department, 350 W. Cherry St, Sunbury, Ohio 43074, from 6-8 PM on May 1st and get your gear early! Race day packet pickup is also available at the event beginning at 7:30 AM.
There is ample parking at General Rosecrans Elementary. Overflow parking is available in the Kroger parking lot next door.
Awards will be provided in the 5K Run/Walk to the top 3 male and female finishers 16 & over, and the top 3 overall finishers in the 15 & under category.
