Description

Kick off spring with this destination event and spring time tradition! It's Washington's prettiest run/walk event as participants start at an urban wildlife sanctuary and head to one of the nation's most iconic cherry blossom displays - all in the heart of Seattle’s UW campus!

--- ABOUT THE COURSE ---

Beginning at the Center for Urban Horticulture you’ll wind your way through the Union Bay Natural Area and around the sports facilities, including Husky Stadium. Cross the pedestrian overpass into central campus and head up and around towards the main entrance. Finish in the Red Square surrounded by amazing gothic architecture and the iconic cherry blossoms!🌸 Half marathon runners will utilize the Burke Gilman Trail the first years and then the 520 HWY Bridge Trail and Arboretum Trail in future years.

--- SCHEDULE ---

7 AM - No same day packet pick up or registration (There is a mailing service to mail your packets this year for a fee if you cannot attend packet pick up). Arrive early for parking, warm up, stretch, drink coffee, and immerse yourself in the Union Bay Natural Area.

7:30 - USATF Half Marathon start.
7:45 - Union Bay Kids 1K start
8:05 - 5K run/walk start
8:30 AM -11 AM - Finish Line Water, refreshments, donuts, vendors, "Legion of Bloom" award announcements, prizes, cherries.

Free professional event photography at the Red Square and in The Quad when you wear your bib!

 

--- PARKING & TRAVEL ---

- Parking is FREE in all open campus parking lots! Just 30 stalls at the start in the Center for Urban Horticulture. 100 stalls in E4 Parking Lot nearby. 1,000+ stalls available at the large E18 and E1 parking lots which we highly recommend. We encourage carpooling and/or Uber/Lyft rides.

Am I allowed to pick up for friends?
Yes!

Are strollers allowed?
Yes, please make sure they have all-terrain wheels.

Are dogs allowed?
Yes, on leash of course! Please pick up after your pet and start near the back of the last wave.

May I step on plants in the Union Bay Nature Area?
NO!

May I climb the trees for amazing photos anywhere on campus?
NO!

5K Course

Course Description:

The 5K run starts at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Then run on gravel trail past wildlife through acres of Union Bay Natural Area before crossing over Ravenna Creek bridge to circle the soccer and baseball fields and the new outdoor track. Re-join more Union Bay shoreline as you head towards sports facilities on gravel road. You'll run around the newly renovated Husky Stadium! Pass by the new UW Link Rail station and over the newly constructed Pedestrian Overpass. Turn right at the end of the overpass and head uphill on Rainier Vista. Turn right onto E Stevens Way NE and stay to the left side of Stevens Way on sidewalk! Watch your pace because this is nearly a mile uphill! You'll stay on E Stevens Way NE all the way to the main entrance. Turn left on Memorial Way NE until the end of the road. Turn left onto the wide path and finish in Red Square adjacent to The Quad!

Because the top 3 male and female finishers in respective age categories (ages 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-100) will receive these large, exclusive, and powerful "Legion of Bloom" award medals and names will be featured in a Legion of Bloom website section to be shared on social media and emails.
