On November 2nd, I’ll be running the Cambridge Half Marathon in honor of my Uncle Vivek, who died by suicide in 2009 at the age of 23 after living with bipolar disorder. This run is more than just a race for me—it’s a way to carry forward my family’s decade-long commitment to suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and remembrance.
Since Vivek’s passing, my family has come together year after year around October 28th, Vivek's birthday, for the Out of the Darkness Walks. After forming Team Veev, we have raised over $43,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
As someone who has always been connected to the running community and my family’s mission, I wanted to combine both to create something meaningful.
So, on November 2nd, I’ll be running for the conversations we still need to have around mental health. I’ll be running to support those who may feel lost with no one to turn to. I'll be running for Vivek.
I invite you to support my journey—whether by donating, sharing this page, or simply taking a moment to check in on your own mental health or that of someone you love. Every dollar raised helps AFSP move closer to their bold goal of reducing the suicide rate 20% by the end of 2025.
Thank you for reading, for remembering Vivek with us, and for supporting a cause that means so much to me and my family. 💙
With gratitude,
Sachin
