Remembering Your “Why?”

My name is Ryan Falcone. I am a 21 year old college student from Greer, South Carolina attending the University of South Carolina. My dad and I ran the Marine Corps historic half marathon in May; this was my first official half marathon, I have only been running for 8 months but quickly developed a love for it. While picking up our bibs for the historic half, we stopped at the Semper Fi booth where I was captivated by the work they do to give back to those who risk their lives to keep our country safe. They informed me that there were available sports to register for the Marine Corps Marathon in October and I wanted to make that a goal for me in running. I have yet to run a marathon so this will be my first, and I thought there was no better way to go about it than to help raise money for Semper Fi along the journey.

In my slideshow above, you will see pictures of me and my parents, and you will also see a photo of LCpl. Aron Michalski. Aron is another big reason, if not the main reason I want to run this race. The Michalski family is close to mine. While I have no direct affiliation with the Marine Corps, Aron was a Marine who sadly cannot be with me and the thousands of other people signed up to run in October. Aron and I share the same birthday which also makes me feel connected to him and in times of tribulation, has given me the strength to persevere through mental and physical pain.

I chose the tagline “For Those Who Can’t” because I realized how much of a blessing it is to be able to go out and run and move my body, there are many people that would give up everything to be in my position. Thinking about those people inspires me and helps me push myself to be better every day. If you would like to support and follow me in this journey to run my first marathon it would mean the world to me, not because you are helping me, but because you are supporting an amazing organization that gives aid to those who need it most.
