Pedal the Cause

The weekend of September 19th I will be participating in PEDAL THE CAUSE which raises money for Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at Children's hospital. 100% of the money raised stays in St. Louis and is directed at cancer research and care for adult and pediatric cancer.  Please join me in this fight that has affected so many people we love. 

I am inspired and motivated by so many amazing fighters.  My first inspiration comes from Tim Holten, my fiance who lost his life to non-hodkins lymphoma at the age of 24, in 2001.  This summer marks 25 years he has been gone. His life was just at the beginning and was cut short unfairly by cancer.   After he died I knew I needed to do something more with my life. I left my job at Boeing and went back to school to become a nurse. I've been an oncology nurse since 2004- it is my passion and meeting and helping patients through some of the most difficult times of their life gives my life so much more meaning. I love when I hear a bell ring inside one of our Siteman Cancer Centers- signifying the end of treatment, good news on a scan for a patient, or for some the end of their treatment.  I hope and pray that during my lifetime we see many cures for many or all cancers. My next inspiration comes from a dear friend Lukas who is also a physician in the field of oncology/BMT and a survivor of his own battle with leukemia, but still facing many challenges from graft vs host which is a life long side effect from his transplant.   I am joining pedal the cause to raise money for all those fighting and all who have lost their life that their last wish was to find a cure so no one else would lose their life to the fight.  

I also ride for the patients I have the honor of meeting every day at Siteman Cancer Center- these incredible patients and their families inspire me every day.
