What are the options?

If you are new to ACT Running:

  • Become A Runner is a 7 week program intended for absolute beginners or those returning after more than a 3 month hiatus from running.  It is a gentle entry into running using walk breaks and low milage.  The program builds peaking at the 5K distance.  There are weekly e-mail tips and athletes will have access to our private site. 
  • Intermediate 5K-10K Training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays takes those who are fairly comfortable with running 2-3 miles but would like to improve. Every run is different, and the workload varies with individuals and their needs.  We work on running drills, form, strength training and quality runs (hills, tempo, speed, track, etc).  Don't worry, this is intermediate, not expert. Click on green plus sign beside Membership Levels for more information. This group is ongoing, you may join anytime.
  • 10 to 13.1 mile Race Training - Middle Distance (September 10, 2016) This gradual program uses interval running (3 minutes run: 1 minute walk) to build up you up to a 10-13.1 distance by December or January. You'll be a part of a supportive & social team that will help you reach your goal. Runs will be approximately 8-15 minute miles**. Participants will receive weekly training tips via e-mail, including suggested supplement training, and are welcome to participate in weekday shorter morning runs. Participants should have at least 2 months base of 5-10 miles per week and MUST be comfortable run/walking for 3 miles. The first run will begin with a 3-4 mile run. Train for the Run for the Water 10 Miler, the Rock and Roll, San Antonio 1/2 Marathon or the 3M 1/2 Marathon.
  • FREE The Weekday Walk Group allows you meet up with other walkers for a 20-60 minute morning walk.  It is less structured than the programs distance but requires RSVP on our private site. 
  • NOTE: All programs take a 2 week break the end of December/early Jan. 

Alumni

  • Once you have completed a full program with ACT Running, you'll be eligible to join the Weekday Run Club.  It allows you to maintain and improve on the progress you made in any of the ACT Running programs.  It is less structured than the programs (i.e. "Become A Runner," Cap 10K, etc), allowing you choose your schedule and distance.  You still have access to our Club benefits. Open to all Become A Runner graduates or with permission from Coach.  Come to any of the runs Monday- Friday. Click on green plus sign beside Membership Levels for more information.
  • Distance Run Club -  All the benefilts of the Weekday Run Club PLUS Saturday's Long Run. Saturday will work on developing distance, offering several distances each Saturday between 3-15 miles, depending on your need. Coach will help map out your appropriate training.

If you are able to walk for 30 minutes, this group will help you Become a Runner, in ability and in spirit. By gradually increasing your distance and building walk breaks into the program, you'll discover that not only is a 5k (3.1 mile) distance within your reach, it is enjoyable, gratifying and quite possibly addictive. Runs peak at a 3 minute run, 1 minute walk interval.***

This group is about completing not competing - there will not be a specific time-goal. By the time you graduate, you will be able to call yourself a Runner.
New program offered every 7 weeks.

Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays
6:00 - 7:00 am

Meets at: Ramsey Neighborhood Park

*** If you are interested in eliminating all walk breaks and have not run in over 6 months, it is recommended that you take 10+ full weeks to do so. Therefore, you can  complete a Become A Runner and then join the Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday group (Distance Run Club).

Intermediate 5K Training - Tu/Th/Sa (Monthly)

You are fairly comfortable with 3 miles but would like to improve your speed and stamina. This Tuesday/Thursday group will advance your 5K training by eliminating walk breaks, increasing your distance and introducing quality runs. In other words: FUN! This group is all about comparing and improving your times against yourself, with the help of a team.

Weekday Run Club - alumni only M-F (Monthly)

ALUMNI ONLY (Does not include Saturday Run)
You must have completed a Become A Runner, Intermediate 5K, 1/2 Marathon or other class in order to join at this membership level.
Come to any Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and/or Friday runs.
Continue the progress you made in the Become A Runner program by maintaining your weekday runs. Distance generally hovers between 2.5 and 5 miles. Runs are an opportunity to maintain and hone your base miles.
Open to all Become A Runner graduates or with permission from Coach.
NOTE: No workouts between last week of Dec and first week of Jan

Membership Options

2 Month Membership: $50.00

Distance Run Club - alumni only (Monthly, includes Saturday Long Run)

 Come to any of the weekly 9 runs, including the Saturday Long Run (several distances available each Saturday between 3-15 miles).  Coach will help map out your appropriate training plan.

ALUMNI ONLY
You must have completed a Become A Runner, Intermediate 5K, 1/2 Marathon or other class in order to join at this membership level.
Come to any Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday runs.
Continue the progress you made in the Become A Runner program by maintaining your weekday runs. Distance generally hovers between 2.5 and 5 miles during the week and 3-15 on Saturday. Weekday runs are an opportunity to maintain and hone your base miles, Saturday allows you to add distance.

NOTE: No workouts between last week of Dec and beginning of Jan (time will be credited)

Weekday Walk Group - 6:00am M/W/F

The FREE Weekday Walk Group allows you meet up with other walkers for a 20-60 minute morning walk.

Winter Distance & Half Marathon Training

Ever wanted to log a double digit run?!? This 15 week program uses interval running (3 minutes run: 1 minute walk) to build up to your choice distance. You'll be a part of a supportive & social team that will help you reach your goal. Runs will be approximately 10-13 minute miles**. Participants will receive weekly training tips via e-mail, including suggested supplement training, and are welcome to participate in weekday shorter morning runs.
Participants should have at least 2 months base of 5-10 miles per week and should be comfortable run/walking for 3 miles. The first run will begin with a 3-4 mile run.
$185 Registration (race not included) for new participants.
Meets Saturdays starting September 10, 2016 - December 16
