The Legacy of Terry Hudson
Terry Hudson found his tribe in 2008 when he began participating in EBFRW Saturday run/walks with his life partner, Don Fritsche. Never a runner before, Terry became a good one as an EBFRW member, going on to complete many 5K and 10K races, including at the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland, OH.
Almost immediately after he became a member, Terry jumped in to volunteer his time and boundless energy. Don was already club secretary when Terry joined EBFRW, so he had a great role model to follow. Very quickly Terry became the club’s uber-volunteer, the first to arrive for set up and the last to leave after cleanup at almost every club event. In 2011, Terry began an unprecedented 15-year stint as club treasurer. In his “spare time,” Terry managed the EBFRW Facebook page, and in 2020, launched and maintained our Instagram page.
Most remarkably, Terry continued doing all this work as he battled lymphoma, rising above his illness time and time again, through pain and seemingly endless treatments. He performed his final act of EBFRW volunteerism, staffing a water station at the Oakland Marathon, just one month before he passed away on April 29, 2025.
Terry and Don were named lifetime members of EBFRW together in 2018. Their shared legacy of service to the club will be remembered for years to come.
