Description

The Honolulu Marathon Clinic was established in 1974 and trains anyone and everyone to complete a marathon.

The Honolulu Marathon Clinic is for anyone who enjoys running, might be planning to participate in the Honolulu Marathon (or any marathon for that matter), and wanting to reap all the health benefits that are attendant with recreational long-distance running. With that as background, we have proudly been bringing health to the world “one runner at a time” for 50 years.

Our core activities are weekly clinics that begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Sunday mornings from the second Sunday in March until the week before the Honolulu Marathon which is traditionally held on the second Sunday in December. If you have ever dreamed of completing a marathon and thereby becoming part of less than 1% of individuals who can do it, the Honolulu Marathon Clinic is tailored specifically for you. Give it a try! It is free and led by a positively encouraging and supportive group of veteran marathoners who welcome all levels from elite runners to everyday walkers. Our motto is “strangers are only friends we haven’t yet met”.

Honolulu Marathon Clinic hereby affirms that it has no formal or informal relationship with Honolulu Marathon. Any similarity in name, title, or terminology is coincidental and does not imply partnership, sponsorship, endorsement, or shared purpose.

THE TROLLEY TROT

Keeping the iconic Honolulu Marathon Clinic tradition alive, on September 20, 2026, we’ll be trolleying clinic members out to Hawaii Kai, where participants will run or walk back to Paki Avenue. The cost is $4 per rider.

But this is not your typical bus run. This year, like the 2025 "naked run," this event will test your ability to pace by feel rather than by depending on technology to determine your pace during the run. Before your imagination runs wild, "naked running" simply means running or walking WITHOUT looking at your watch, phone, or other timing device during the run to determine your pace. Keep all your normal running attire on, but leave the pace monitoring to your instincts.

The Challenge: Predict Your Time
This is a predict-your-time run, WITHOUT using any timing device to determine your pace. Before the run, you'll estimate (HOURS : MINUTES : SECONDS) how long it will take you to reach the finish at the Honolulu Marathon Clinic site (marked with a banner) on Paki Avenue. Once the run begins, you'll rely solely on your perceived effort rather than any timing device.

The goal is to run or walk the 10.00-mile course at a pace that is one to two minutes slower than your normal training pace. This is an excellent opportunity to practice the controlled first half of a marathon and develop the discipline needed for a successful negative split on race day.

Registration for Trolley Trot
By 9/13/26, see Stephanie or Dean at the Sunday clinic table OR email Stephanie at: hmcstephanie@yahoo.com to register. To help us reserve transportation, please sign up early and record your predicted finish time (HOURS : MINUTES : SECONDS)

Cost: $4 per person

For questions, contact Stephanie at: hmcstephanie@yahoo.com

The Hawaii Sports Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which, through the Honolulu Marathon Clinic, has been educating thousands to improve their health by achieving physical fitness through long distance running.  We've been training the public since 1974, meeting every Sunday at 7:30 a.m. (except 3-day holidays) for the past 50 years.  From the second Sunday in March through the first week of December, our group of volunteer runners (each has completed at least one marathon) guide beginners through a graduated program culminating in a 90% completion rate for those who enter a marathon.
