Giving Tips
For the second year in a row, there is no cost to participate in Louisville Earth Walk (LEW). We want it to be free for everyone, just as are air, sunlight, soil and many other Earthly blessings. At the same time, Louisville Earth walk exists in order to raise funds for the local environmental non-profits who join together to stage the event. Accordingly, we ask everyone to give whatever you can. Here is how to do it in RunSignUp.
1. Definitions
a. “Register” and “Sign up” are used interchangeably.
b. "Donate:" to contribute to a charitable cause (in this case the Louisville Earth Walk)
c. "Fundraiser" (two meanings):
i. A collection of donations that will be pooled together for a specific charity (in this case for LEW). This is the definition usually used in RunSignUp.
ii. One who manages such a collection of donations.
d. "Fundraising team:" a collection of fundraisers pooled together for a specific charity.
2. Ways to give. Any of the following can be done before, during, or after the registration process, or without registering at all.
a. Donate directly to LEW
b. Donate to an existing fundraiser
c. Create your own personal fundraiser. Your fundraiser will have its own web address (URL) that you can share with your contacts and on social media.
d. Join or create a fundraising team.
3. A few RunSignUp process tips (start from the home page)
a. Click “Register” and join the event for free. A personal RunSignUp account will be created for you when you register. Get help here.
b. Click “Donate.” Get help here.
i. To make a simple, direct donation from the Donation Page, scroll down to “Donation” and click on one of the “tree” levels or choose a “Custom Amount.”
ii. To donate to a particular fundraiser (e.g., to help a friend reach her/his goal), first search for that friend’s fundraiser in the box immediately above “Donation.” Then repeat the above step.
