Our Mission
The Carying Place teaches homeless, working families with children life skills for attaining independent living while providing short-term housing and support services to address their individual needs.
Who we are
We began operations in May 1993 as part of the Christian Community in Action. We incorporated as a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization in 1998 with its own Board of Directors.
To date, we have worked with over 350 families with near 90% success; current program supports eight families living in apartments or town homes owned or leased by TCP.
We receive approximately 300 requests for homelessness-related services a month. Currently, we have more than 360 families waiting on housing assistance.
Our goal is to help working homeless families achieve independent living through mentoring of volunteers providing weekly guidance in managing personal finances, seeking permanent affordable housing, and maintaining a job – breaking the cycle of poverty they have experienced.
Over a 16-week period, these families are ‘enlightened’ about the skills required for self-sufficiency through mandatory Thursday evening meetings with their Support Partners.
