The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban, operator of the 495 Express Lanes, are celebrating the opening of the new 495 Express Lanes Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail and offering a preview of the future Scott’s Run Nature Preserve Annex Lot in McLean, VA. A ribbon cutting will precede the Fun Run/Walk and Kids Race, commemorating the opening of the new trail. As part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project, an approximately two-and-a-half-mile trail that runs parallel to I-495 in the McLean area was built and will open to the public on June 27. Situated behind new noise walls, the trail provides a safe, separated facility for bicyclists and pedestrians with newly built connections across the Beltway at Lewinsville Road, Old Dominion Drive and Georgetown Pike. The new Scott's Run Nature Preserve Annex parking lot, which will open later this year, will feature 25 parking spaces, along with picnic tables, benches, and areas for bicycle repair and parking accommodations.
Free event parking is available at Holy Trinity Church, 850 Balls Hill Road, McLean, VA. Parking is limited, so participants are encouraged to carpool or walk if possible.
