Al Briede Gold Cup Foundation
Albert Emile Briede III was a legendary athlete, founding member of the New Orleans Track Club, and pillar of the community. He was a pitcher for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 1940s and was a Hall of Fame member of the Diamond Club of Greater New Orleans. He was also a funeral director for over 60 years serving families in the Greater New Orleans area. He was a founding member, past President and Hall of Fame member of New Orleans Track Club; founder of The Al Briede Gold Cup Race (3rd oldest race in New Orleans); past member and athlete of the year (several times) of the New Orleans Athletic Club (NOAC); charter and lifetime subscriber of Sport Illustrated magazine.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Al Briede Gold Cup Foundation, which endows scholarships for local runners in the Greater New Orleans area.
